The story is that Executor was grabbed and pulled by the gravity created by the Death Star, and unable to control itself.

In the books, the possibility is also mentioned that during his reign, the emperor maintained semi-control over all his soldiers/military, increasing their loyalty, devotion, etc. His death is what caused the horrible defeat the Empire suffered at Endor.

Tired of ads?

Traditional US Navy naming schemes:

Submarines --> Fish
Destroyers --> Famous people in the navy
Cruisers --> Cities
Battlecruisers --> Territories
Battleships --> States
Aircraft Carriers --> Battlefields

Some of the ships named after states and cities became floating museums at such state or city after decommissioning. (Too bad for inland states!)

Now that battleships aren't built anymore, some of the nuclear submarines carry the names of states. I'm not quite sure when or why carriers started to be named after people.

Since the Nimitz Carriers have been named after statesmen.

LPD/LSDs are named after cities and Battles.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Lonestar: Did you see the new public monument they made for the USS San Diego? It's just north of Sea Port Village and southg of the San Diego Air Craft Carrier Museum where the old USS Midway is harbored. It's a very artistic and well done tribute to the old WW2 era war ship and I can't help but think of it after you spoke about the new USS San Diego.

From US Navy website, more than ya probably wanted to know about ship naming procedures:

quote:
Ammunition ship names are names of volcanoes or words denoting fire and explosives (Suribachi, Pyro).

Don't you pay attention? The world's largest Air Craft Carrier is already named after the gipper. I disagreed with alot of his policies but here's to naming huge war ships after politicians from Southern California. Can the USS Nixon be far behind?

Actually, it's one of several of the "world's largest," as the Nimitz-class are all the same size.

And it's not the largest ever built, the Japanese hold that record.

The Japanese hold the largest Battleship not Air Carft Carrier. The Carriers are bigger in any event.

Boris, the Ronald Reagan is over 100,000 tons. It's the largest Carrier in the World. I don't believe the Shinano ever reached that.

(especially as the Yamato battleships, which is what it was based off of, weighed in at "only" 80,000 tons)

Not talking tonnage, but dimensions. No, it can't beat tonnage, as it came in just over 70,000.

Depends who you ask. Tonnage isn't a good measure of size, though, and "largest" indicates dimensions, to most people.

But even that may be wrong, by the look of it. Several sites give credit to the Shinano for being the largest ever, but the dimensions clearly give the Nimitz-class the edge regardless. Hmmmph, you can really support any position on the web.
