I was starting to find the relentless violence a bit hard to take too but hard to avoid in mafia show obviously. So it was a nice break.

I like the way they have made clear in subtle ways that these are not nice people. Sometimes mafia shows have a way of making the violence look like just retribution. Pretty much everyone in the show is loathsome and dysfunctional on a very deep level. I see no glamour in it.

Btw, you should the SBS doco tonight on Dubya - it's sort of a thinking person's Fahrenheit 9/11.

Yes, I've defended this series of the Sopranos for that very reason. The mob stuff, the violence, is not only easy to plot and write, it can lose its impact. And get repetitive. They bit the bullet - so to speak - and took to the very private lives of these dysfunctional people. I've found it more interesting than the mob stuff. They're such wonderful characters - and stunning performances! I taped last night's ep for Mrs finbar and we watched it tonight. It's even better the second time. Beautifully written, directed and acted. They took every anxiety dream everyone has ever had and put in on the screen.

I forgot to watch Dubya. I know all I need to know about the ***** anyway.

Horse sneak attacked my city only a few turns after meeting and forming a peace treaty. His excuse ' I needed the Monarchy tech', this already being in AD years, I would be desparate also without Monarchy at that stage of a game. Finbar followed with his own attack soon after, so looks like a hard tough game to follow
