	technical difficulties with apolyton Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

for some reason when i open up apolyton the pages open but continue to load until "cannot find server or DNS error". i then have to hit back and stop to be able to read the pages, it is especially bad on the alt civs main page, i usually don't have time to hit stop after the page fully loads but before the server error comes up

i use IE 5

korn, personally, i dont have any problems the last days

try doing a traceroute when you're having problems to see if there is a problem somwhere between you and apolyton

Open a DOS window and type "tracert apolyton.net" without the quotes.

It could be a problem with your ISP, korn. A DNS error seems to mean that your browser could not resolve the IP address of Apolyton using information from your local DNS server. Since we know that Apolyton exists, it should be a problem with your DNS server. This could happen if its database got corrupted or doesn't replicate properly.

Ask your system administrator.

Not necessarily, Snapcase.

There are numerous backbone connections to the Internet in North America let alone the rest of the world. It could be a localized problem originating in different geographical locations in the world, but still be hung up at the same or near the same point in the grid. Several trace routes being performed by those citing such difficulties should narrow down the problem.

It is almost always the case that when you connect to a site on the World Wide Web that at least 10-15 hopes are being performed simotaneously to send you to that site's server's location.

Maybe it's localised, just like Dan says, or maybe it's not. It's surprising how many DNS servers aren't properly maintained, Snapcase. Many system administrators are either lazy or too busy.
