Palace improvements Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I just saw a thread lately posted with almost the same subject line. But what i hoped to find was how to get those improvements.

Not that i have problems in getting them, but for me it is something that just happens accidentially. What i believe it could be is something like this:

Culture points (total)
First battle won
.................

What else can it be - can anyone set of a list for how to improve it?

Why? I would just as soon have it disabled as an option. It was annoying in civII and still is in CivIII.

When I 1st started playing CivIII I tried to figure out the purpose of the palace screen. Nowadays I just ignore it. Playing on my own mod it doesn't appear. I don't know why it doesn't, but it's bliss

I've never noticed any pattern, always assumed it was fairly random, although when your overall performance is good then the screen pops up more frequently.

I can't recall any post that gave any real data on it, but you could try the search.

It is not random, I am sure it is tied to the happiness of the empire. Get in we love you and you will get the pop up soon.

Improvements do seem to come rather predictably, especially in the early game... Perhaps we could try to figure it out by taking notes of our number of cities, number of units, culture, number of wonders, rankings in score etc for the early game and try to find a pattern.

I have searched around and found no real info about this.

It oftenly happens as well when war is declared upon you.
And sometimes it happens every 2/3 turns, when things are going fine.

My understanding of palace improvements is that they come with a set of conditions. When each condition is met, you get a palace improvement. Some of these conditions are score goalposts (when you reach X score or something like that), some are specific types of events such as the first time you kill a barbarian, the first time you conquer a city, etc.

IMHO,1st time you kill a barbarian always triggers the palace.
A thought: if the palace improvement screen serves no viable game purpose, what is the point of conditions and score goals? Oh well, if people like it, why not?

yep- I'd say happiness.

As soon as I get into a war- which I never start. The ai declares war on me. This will cause a popup for palace improvement. The ai declaring war on you will boost nationwide happiness. So I'd go with happiness being the reason.

From experience I can confirm that there's no trigger for the first time you destroy a Barb unit (this is easy enough to test out).

I'm reasonably certain there's one for the first time you successfully defend against a Barb assault on one of your cities.

Your first Wonder (not conquered) is also a trigger, I think.

So, I was conquering Rome, and doing good, so all the Roman citizens were revolting. However, I finally killed them off, and almost every former Roman city had a We Love the Queen Day (I was Egypt under a Monarchy), and it didn't trigger a Palace improvement.

While the palace improvements are useless and serve no strategic advantage, they are just interesting eye-candy, which I like. So, I don't have a problem with it. It doesn't interrupt the flow of the game for me.

I still like doing my palace.

In fact, playing a random game I got to build a architecture I have never done before. middle eastern.

I'm playing the persians.

I did not get one after defeating my first barb unit. I do believe I got one after my first wonder. I got several during my golden age.

I actually never finished my palace.....
what happens when you finish your palace?

Besides that, in civ1 you saw your enemy with his palace in the background. That was quiet cool, a good indication on how happy his people were with him.
In mp games that's a cool feature. In civ4 we want that as well (at least I want it)

It's finished.

That, and you don't get any more pop-ups about being able to add on parts since none are left to be added.

That's a problem with civ3, if you achive anything, nothing cool happens. Even the victory screens suck.

Civ1 had a very good ending with your planet-lander on the planet next to alpha centauri...............
Or was that civ2? Whatever...

Actually, the palace screen would be the perfect place for hiding those easter eggs

Imaging your palace shake and crumble into a heap of bricks just because it was UNs international geophysican day

Any good palace mods around btw?

Suffering from ads?

You should see your palace in your capital.
And meet foreign visitors in it.

Tired of ads?

I think that you palace is also changed in the city view screen depending on how your palace is doing in it's own screen. I could be wrong but I don't think so...

Yes, the city view palace does change. It isn't an exact following of your palace improvements, though; rather, I think it goes through several stages depending on the number of improvements made rather than where you made them.

I don't mind the palace view but it is meaningless. It would be better if you got a benefit with each build such as increased optimal cities, decreased corruption, etc. Maybe they could do something like the HFOG reduction in MOO3.

If you would meet with foreign visitors in your palace, a bigger and more beautifull palace could impress your visitors, so you can get better deals.

In that case it differs if you go to your neighbour and ask him for something then if your neighbour comes to you.

And his power should be visualised with armies surrounding the palace.
A little bit as in civ1, but better.

I surely would rethink an attack on my neighbours if I visit him in a palace surounded by avanced soldiers and very wealthy treasures.
And of course, see the leader himself sitting on his trown.
