Well I'll be there - I cannot speak for Mr Permanent Erec....

I think I'll be OK for tonight. Check in around 8:30pm Aussie EDT, Sat night here.
------
Us of the great 'yo ho ho hydey ho' alliance have made great advances and equalised the availability of techs for all the world.
However the monstrous finbar/makeo alliance remains all powerfull despite some losses of cities. We must be vigilant in the face of such strength.

NEWS FLASH
The beloved leader of the Horse Empire becomes catatonic with boredom in the big aussie game, which manages only 4 turns in 4 hours. Physicians despair. Horse considers resigning from the game for health reasons.

I'm basically a very peaceful player but there is going to be the odd planet where THE DEITY feels other pseudo-peaceful civs are being unfair. On this planet the finbar/makeo alliance were racing away with a huge lead in everything, sharing nothing
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
Translation: I'm a warmonger when I feel the urge.
The finbar/Makeo alliance raced away with a huge lead in everything because it explored and researched properly. In this case, war was started because the DEITY/Hydey alliance were hopelessly inefficient in the exploration and research departments. What's more, since when, in a competitive game, are techs shared around? Traded, perhaps, if the opposition has something to trade. In this case, they didn't. Thus they started a war.
<center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
</font> finbar's annoying persistence that we could find more land if we looked for it is not exactly sensible. I don't like disparate empires colonising the world, as you do. I like a geographically clusterd civ.
Onion Isle should never have been colonised by the Zulus. It is DEITIAN territory despite earlier suggestions that you could settle there! You refused my earlier requests to allow us to share it.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
DEITY doesn't like disparate empires? Fair enough, a DEITY idiosyncracy. So he launches unproved attacks on a Civ who had the nouse to explore, find and colonise an island that lay in uncharted waters. The Zulus found the island and colonised it before the DEITIANS stumbled across it.
<center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>

<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
Get stuffed. Lose techs? You've already thieved most of our techs anyway. Having failed to research them yourself.

My proposal is that we keep all territory north of the Sioux capital and no DEITIAN ships will venture south of that latitude. No Aztec or Zulu ship is to come within 6 squares of our territory either.
I only offer this to aid Horses health problem
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
Horse's health problem would be better served by addressing the time it's taking for turns.

makeo,
you can't analyse the situation in such simplistic terms!
You need to see the actions of THE DEITY in the context of the above history and taking your reputation into account
(BTW In my first three games with you I was attacked unprovoked by the nasty yellow colour!)

Each to his own style of course.
If the finbar/makeo alliance chooses to use its resources to concentrate on exploration/colonisation and tech research and only defend with antiquated units then you are trying to get something for free.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
Mmm. Here we go again. Rationalising and justifying starting a war purely and simply for the purposes of gaining techs and territory. Which is a fair enough reason to start a war. Except he won't admit it.
Antiquated units? Riflemen? Tst. Small cities, walled, defended by at least one rifleman, and if no more than one, only because there wasn't the shield support.
<center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
</font> In a real world situation, where other civs CHOOSE to build smaller but tighter and well defended civs, it is inevitable that weakly defended highly advanced civs are vulnerable, having put ALL their eggs in one basket
You guys are only mad cos you took a risk!
You are now paying the penalty for that risk. You said, finbar, you and makeo were trading through the roof. I know you were maxing out science rates, for sure, getting science bonuses. makeo loves this. I knew from previous life times that he does this whilst defending with warriors and archers and then quickly moving into armour and howies as soon as you get the techs.
My timing was critical. You'd have howies by now the way your techs were going, then we would have seen who was the war monger!
makeo's reputation precedes him AND you are allied to him, finbar.
YOUR CHOICE.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
Mmmmmmm. More of the same. And I reiterate the point about walled riflemen.
<center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
</font> AS you know I've rarely attacked first and even in this game I remain spotless
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
If you remain spotless it's only because you didn't have a treaty with the Aztecs at the time of your dastardly unprovoked attack. A technicality. The whole world knows the truth.
<center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
</font> Your stupid Foreign Advisor didn't tell you that your civ had declared war on ME! How can I be responsible for that and in kings chat you just said you hadn't declared war on hydey. Your Government is very confused!
What was I to believe?
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>
As you'd be aware, the software automatically links the allies, and, obviously, registers the overall situation. Ergo, your unprovoked attack on the Aztecs caused the software to register you and the Aztecs were at war. Ergo, the software registered you were at war with the Aztec's ally. Again, a technicality, brought about by your unprovoked attack. I didn't fire a shot against you. If you'd enquired, I'd've told you I had no interest in a war. Makeo had no interest in a war. It was all your doing.
Now, you're trying to sue for peace to stop a war you started. Remember a film called "The Mouse That Roared"? Peter Sellers played about 4 roles in it. About a tiny European country that realised the best thing in the world was to lose a war to the United States, because countries that lost wars against the United States received untold riches as a sort of recompense for having been beaten. Problem was, the tiny European country - with its forces of one submarine and an army of 10 - invaded America on an American public holiday. The streets were deserted. The tiny European country won the war.
Which is where this reality differs from that fiction. They did, you won't.

Ha Ha Ha!!!!
Aztec pg dropping.
Zulus losing territory.
Pretty good for one small nation to take on the 2 most powerful empires over 100 years ago. And still there has been no real attack on me.
Also, my ally is preparing for war after that unprovoked attack by the Aztecs. Have you factored that into the equation?
Then there is that wild card of a Horse to contend with. I don't think you, finbar, are that friendly with him, are you?
You haven't even got enough shield support to hold more than one defender!! That says it all. You put all your eggs in the trade/tech basket. Now you are going to be a basket case

I'm warning you all now, if we have another session as slow as last night I am going to fall asleep, slumped over my keyboard.
This almost happened last night. I fell asleep on the lounge whilst watching a movie with Mrs Horse but still managed to wake up in plenty of time for my turn!
If I fall asleep, the game will hang of course. I'm not planning to do this deliberately. Its just inevitable.

The real problem turntimewise is Deity has stuck so many cities on that main island of his that he has to micro manage up the ying yang just to stop em all from starving.

Hey, AH, that's not true!
If I do micro it's NOT during my turn anyway.
Don't forget I'm in Democracy with many troops away from home. I cannot afford a Govt collapse so I need to be very careful about which units end up outside a city areas. This takes a little time. The main time user during my turn is just moving units. Plus, makeo and I have had trouble with the AI Sioux not liking our troops outside their cities! Funny about that. We really shouldn't play games with AI's. I had to move a lot of troops, unnecesarily, because of that. Otherwise on the next turn some of them would have been automatically removed (which is what happened to makeo!) and I'd rather have troops in fortified fortresses rather than just IN a nearest city
