I say good riddance on the future death of the TBS, Civ-type gaming form!

I will still play Civ3, and will still look forward to any more good ideas coming from S. Meier, whether they have the scope of Civilization or not, the "system" of Civilization or not. I'm always looking for new ways to have FUN in computer games, and if the Civ-type games don't provide me my fix, then I'll play Starcraft-type games, or whatever is good at that time.

Civ2 was a huge success, SMAC was a huge success (over 600,000 sold), and I have no doubt that Civ3 will be a Huge Success. But I don't need Civ games to have fun. I'm looking at Europa Universalis and Arcanum right now. Civ is like Populus. It is wonderful and there is nothing in the world like it.

You miss a point here.
If we wont play a lot in a game from the same style but different and improved, why will we play for hundreds of hours in the SAME old game?
After all it is all over again, everything is the same(that's what the Civ haters say).
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

No he doesn't.

I played Civ I for thousands of hours. Civ II I played enough to beat Deity a couple times. SMAC I played a few times, beat the most difficult level, and basically got sick of it.

Now, why did I get bored of the newer civ-style games? Is it because they are not as good as the original?

No, I liked the additions to the series including unit workshop and S.E. And I really didn't think the SMAC graphics were that bad. So then why did I stop playing?

Because it is the same game I have been playing for about 10 years now. Sure from time to time I fire up a game of MP SMAC and every couple weeks I play a game of the original civ, but in the end it is the same game I have been prefecting since the early 90s.

It is time for change and without it, while you may not admit it, you will not play Civ III for as long as you have been playing Civ II.
