Archiving=Deleting? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I hope someone is able and willing to explain to me why a thread that is officially archived actually is deleted?

I know it is very easy to delete a thread. I also understand that memory of the system is limited. But why pretending to put a thread into the archives when it is not considered worthy to be preserved?

And: What criteria are used deciding this issue? It seems to me spam threads stand a better chance to be preserved than serious discussion. Wouldn't it be far easier to send one e-mail asking a boring poster to discontinue his redundant contributions?

Sincere regards (to whom it may concern),

S. Kroeze

PS: I know deleting threads is daily routine on the Off-Topic Forum, where spam is our bread and butter. Why is this tyrannical policy extended to the usually very agreeable and civil CivIII Forum?

Yeah, well, it's very shrewd of you, eh? I mean, this is pure deviousness at work. Shame, MarkG, Shame! Now answer me this, a simple Yes or No will do: Have You stopped lying about Archived Threads?

Thanks for responding!

Here are some examples (I didn't examine all threads in the CivIII archives):

'Diplomacy - diplomacy screen options'
'Diplomacy - trade menu options'
'Do we have enough to start on the List 2.1?'
'How to make Peace'
'IMPORTANT: remark about the size of ancient cities and population growth' (this was the thread I actually searched for; it contains demographical data collected by yours truly, that could possibly help the GGS designers)
'interview'
'Real Time Vs. "Chess"'
'Resource exploitation: outside the city radius'
'Solid numbers - keep them out of Civ3'
'The eternal problem of scale:'
'The future of Civ III'
'The Mith of Customization'
'Unit Concept'

There are also several threads with more than one page somehow linked with one another, like

'Firaxis: Have you ever heard the word: Directory-Structure?' and 'CIV III as an RTS !?'
'Railroads and trains and ships, oh my!',
'Controlled Automation should be the soul of the game',
'Earth is Flat...make it round Sid!'
'Ferries... can it be done?' and 'Starting Civs' have a similar problem.

Because there are so many deleted threads I cannot imagine it was done accidentally. My guess is that about 30% of the threads archived on last Friday give problems!

well, believe it or not, what you descibed Kroeze is a malfunction of the arching script, not some evil plan to erase the good posts of the civ3 forum....
