I agree with archiving the ACDTG and ACPSG. However, I want a warning before it happens because I need to copy out my introduction thread. I need to copy it out with an edit because it's got lots of html tags in it that took me a long time to put in.

People get angry, but people also get over it. Competing against others can be fun, and is the basis for the vast majority of multiplayer games in general. | '
Sure, the Civ2 one, (two scenario ones that I know less about), the Civ3 Feudal game, and the Civ3 Vikings game.
Competing against others CAN be fun, but at the same time can be thoroughly confusing for those of us poor bastards who started not knowing as much as the élite players here who just wanted to learn how to play the effing game. It's kinda hard to tell in amongst the spam, the diplomacy, the spam, the chatting, the spam and the backstabbing.
You may all find that fun. I just want a game like the first one where I actually learned something.

Not really, HongHu. I was in the first game from the beginning, holding several positions, from which I learned volumes about the game. Just seeing things like Crawlers in action, Crawler upgrades, the utility of Clean Reactors made such a difference. All sorts of stuff that must be second nature to all you elite players.
Then the second game was voted on - to my dismay it was decided to play a multi-faction game. That is why I was out of the game for the first part of it. When I joined I found that I just didn't learn. That came from the fact that the best few players were the ones to take the roles, and since it was a competitive game, I never felt like I could try for a position, but then neither was I learning by doing nothing. So if you were a decent player you just practiced that, but for me, wanting to test things out and get help from the pros to up my own game, this was not the place, as we needed all the best that we had to offer just to compete with the other teams.
Actually this is basically the same thing that happens in the Civ3 multi-team games too. It's not about learning new things, but having your best players do what they do even BETTER.

Well I can't speak for the other teams, but at the Hive, my experience has been the same as yours with the first game. I didn't hold many positions in the beginning, but I still learnt a lot of things like ICS base placement, using the crawlers, planning the tech paths, etc. I'm not sure if these kinds of stuff is second nature to all them elite players, but since I'm not an elite player, I got the chance to learn from them.
I didn't really start to participate in the form of actually playing the turns till much later. And I agree with you by that time I was more practising my own skills rather than learning new skills, even if I didn't really have much late game experiences myself. Still I got some help from the pros by their comments on my play, although not a lot since the participation had decreased by then.
I agree with you entirely that a demo game should not be just having your best players do what they do even better. That is why I fighted letting Kody doing everything in the first place. I still believe though, even if it is a team game, if we do it right, it still can be a fun and rewarding learning experience. I have always believed I'm in this for fun, not for win.

As CMN I saw most of what happened discussion-wise in the II game, and I think a lot depends on the attitude of the vets in each team.
Based on my reading of the threads, Hive newbies would learn most, and Drones least, with the other 3 in varying degrees in between (Uni closest to drones and PEACE closest to Hive.
I'm basing these rankings on the degree and frequency of discussions in the forums pre-turn, and whether strategy was set out only after an involved discussion by all, or whether it was just "assumed" - oh, we're so-and-so faction and we do this (conventional wisdom type of stuff)
You'll find a lot of strategy and tactics discussion going on with the Morganites for this new game (Morgan is relatively hard to play, so all are chipping in on the debates about research and build priorities, etc)
I'm trying to get some similar discussion underway with Sparta, especially with players who have played Sparta well, either as a Momentum faction or as a Hybrid. And I have some unique insights to share as I saw the best players in the 3 forums compete in Forum Wars (as the CMN of these I saw how factions developed - but unfortunately only 1 of the 36 teams was Sparta) - as well as the strategies and tactics from the last ACDGII
I can't speak for the other 2 factions, but I'm sure that we'll all learn from each other in the 2 I've mentioned.
G.
