City Sites! Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Red and Blue are For City 2 discussion.

The rest are the locations either mentioned in chat or posted for the FREEBIE Settler.

EDIT: Some idiot can't make a poll, the choice that just says "freebie" is for the BLACK location.

Vote for ONE choice in each section.

Suffering from ads?

Let's try to get this decided and we'll get those two city sites down to let the feudal games begin before my vacation next week...

I suggest we use the blue spot with Settler #2, so that the city will never be destroyed by the volcano.
I also suggest the pink spot for Bonus settler. This way, we'll cover many tiles with only three cities, which will be interesting from a feudal point of view

Blue and Purple

Blue means we get the Oasis and share an already irrigated (and soon to be roaded) fp with Feudality.

The purple one is close to where the bonus settler currently is, without being too close to the volcano.

No way do I want to waste the bonus settler on that east coast, which has crap land (and in the case of the southern green site nothing but hills/Mtns and lake/coast.

I'm in favour of blue: desert is a bad tile, so a good tile to build a city on and there is no volcano eruption danger. It can also funcion as a passage towards the fertile lands in the east. Furthermore, AI strategy forces us to build with large spaces instead of small ones as are best against human players, yet not too wide, due to corruption.

Blue and White.

Blue for City 2, because of all the reasons listed above.

White for the freebie settler, because it has a couple of bonus grasslands readily available, has jungles which can be cleared to grassland later on, and has mountains for production (once culture expands). It will also open up new lands which will help the feudal aspect of the game progress. It is also to the west, near where we found that Egyptian settler. Although we don't yet know where the Egyptian homelands are, we may be impeding Egyptian expansion in our direction by settling at White.

...Or tempting them with free cities. Remember at Emperor level the AI starts getting sizeable start advantages over we pitiful HUmans (too much Invader Zim), 4 Defensive units, 2 Offensive Units and an extra settler.

Granary instead of building the Settler now. City site 2 is the only one that is a better deal than the Granary, and we have a Settler for it already.

Aeson,

with all due respect, while the idea deserves though strategically, the settler will allow the feudal portion to begin quicker...the whole point of this particular game...

I am aware of the point of this game. It will vary from individual to individual how we should approach it. I will offer my opinions on how I think we should proceed, and you have the same right. If you think we should settle 2 more towns quickly to start the Feudal portion, that is your opinion and I respect that. If that is the majority opinion that is what we will do, right?

No need to try to point out the point of the game to anyone. I must say it bothers me when my opinions are refuted as "not the point of the game", as I was under the impression this is a demogame as well as a feudal game.

My stance is that I have no opinion, frankly. I couldn't give a damn how we play this game. I'm more interested in the operating of it than the playing.

I was just trying to point out both sides, probably worded it wrongly.

Not the first time won't be the last.

I'm getting better, though. Only took me one poll and, discounting screenshots, maybe, what, 10 posts or so, to piss someone off this game. That's gotta be some kind of record.

So, to rephrase: Building the granary may make better strategic sense given the free settler. Building another settler gives the feudal game a chance to start earlier. Approx 1-2 weeks earlier in my estimation.

Aeson, rest assured I am learning a TON from your valued advice, and we will doubtless heed it time and again in this game, assuming you are happy to offer it. Your ideas have already shaped the more-food orders I instigated for the last turnchat.

Although I personally think your idea is well worth pausing for a while on, the natives are getting restless. They want enough tiles to begin the Feudal part of this, and they want it yesterday.

Plus, if you want some non-Feudal-orientated counter-arguments to a Granary, with the Egyptians not too far off, we really need to get that settler out to build a few warriors for protection (we have but one ATM!), rather than tie up production for a longer time. Plus the longer we stay at pop greater than 1 on Floodplains without popping a settler out, the greater the chances of more disease hitting, potentially taking us low enough in pop to not allow us the luxury of getting a settler out when we want.

I'm sure I got someone with my second or third post.

My (on-topic) posting is best read with no emotions as that is how it's offered usually, and probably sounds harsh because of it.

Thanks!

They are all good points. My playstyle is usually minimal military except right before a strike. Which while I'll support it, probably isn't the best way to go in a demogame.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I'm not quite sure whether this volcano, is really that threatening, since I've never been hit by any volcano so far. At least it did'nt destroy my city. But I reckon pollution is hard to take anyway.

For the freebie Settler I'd prefer the green location. Yellow doesn't seem any logical at all. Since we can faster move a settler there from our capitol. In think you'd better place him on the green spot, so we can see more production. We have the ag City bonus as well, haven't we, plus some lake tile which makes for more commerce (Desperately longing for a scientific leader to rush the pyramids.)

Btw, What are we researching currently? The Wheel? So we do not dare to research philosophy first?

BTW, MWIA, I see you are providing us with composite screenshots (i.e several screenshots assembled). It's easier to do one if you press the DEL key under Civ3, to remove the minimap and status subscreens, plus the buttons.
