Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Talking initial 'wow' factor rather than actually great games (although some were)...

80s Ant Attack, 3D on a spectrum
Lords oF Midnight, some much game in so little RAM

90s G Police, the graphics wowed me even though i never got more than a few levels in.
Baldur's Gate, just so unexpected.
Syndicate (or was it Syndicate Wars ?) first game i saw on a PC which looked better than the Amiga version

00s Can't think of any but by now i had high expectations.

00's:

The games were getting lame, relying too much on chrome (graphics and sound) instead of having good gameplay. Nothing really sticks out.

I agree Urban Ranger, it keeps getting harder and harder to find good games these days. As I noted, I hardly buy new games at all. Most of mine are pre 2000.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 1999 and Heroes of Might and Magic III 1999 were the last truly addictive/new idea games that I've played

OK, I'll give this a shot.

80's: didn't have a PC, loved Legacy Of The Ancients on my C64. My wife and I fought all the time about who was going to play it.

90's: it's a tie for the WoW factor. Master of Orion was impossible to stop playing. Duke Nukem 3D was really cool when I first started it up.

00's: ummm, I haven't done that many, but Dungeon Siege was really cool to start playing. the epitome of easy to play.

and I can't resist a couple more from the 90's: Diablo was a revelation to play, kinda the Dungeon Siege of the 90's. And no game ever had a cooler intro movie than Curse Of Monkey Island

80s probably mario 1 that comes with nes. that's really the first video game i saw and played a lot.
90s quake 1 without a doubt. believe it or not i was much more wowed by internet multiplay than the first time ever real 3d graphics.
00s meh.

The first THPS game was a lot of fun. Sensible World of Soccer stole hours of my life, Elite and Frontier likewise. Is it time for another favourite games thread?

kinda the opposite for me. i guess it's because i was sorta a fanboy at first. i actually thought they were going to build on the succeses of daggerfall instead of reproduce them by hand. when i first got the game i hated it within a few hours but now after all this time i can take it for what it is - a semi-fun game that is only good in limited doses.

Played that one on my Amiga but I was more of a fan of a game by the same makers where you could fight for control of Europe/Eurasia. Don't remember the name though...

80's - Elite(on my 'rich' friends BBC computer) + Alternate Reality rpg's(on my 8bit Atari)

90's - Civ1+Xcom+Speedball2(perfection - all on my Amiga)

00's - Morrowind+Pirates of the Caribbean(both flawed gems)

looking at these it seems size matters for me! and when it doesnt it has to be perfect(Speedball2)
