I've found a way to close those windows without new ones popping up:
(instructions for Netscape)
1: Go to 'Preferences'
2: Disable Javascript
3: Close the window
4: Go back to preferences
5: Reenable Javascript

Or download the Proxomitron and set it to disable pop-up windows. Then, those windows will never appear at all.
