The word pr!ck is censored which seems really silly as it is a normal word. Dr. Strangelove was trying to discuss blood glucose tests and this one word was constantly censored out. Talk about lacking common sense...

Hmm. I went to a pride festival in Hollywood last weekend and had the time of my life. I'd never been to anything like it, but went to accompany my bisexual roommate. Had anyone asked, though, I was going to tell them I was there to hit on all the women that had absolutely no interest in me... just like anywhere else! hah.

Anyway, I had a blast. To put it in perspective, these guys called me over and one said, "Hey, you're cute". I said, "Sorry, guys, I'm straight" and both forcefully chided me: "Why are you apologizing for being straight?! We're not apologizing for being gay!".

All in all, it wasn't about declaring to the rest of the world "we're here, we're queer!", it was about meeting like-minded people and knowing that you're not alone out there. And, all in all, I probably saw about, oh, five scantily clad guys (no girls) over the course of the day... out of probably ten thousand in attendance.

It was a lot of fun and I'd recommend it for any straight guy or gal -- you'll get a lot of ego-boosting compliments from the same sex and you won't be under much pressure to impress the opposite sex (because most of them don't care).

A mate and I have had a running argument over about 8 years or so as to whether one can be proud to be gay.

He thinks so, I don't. I think that gay pride only makes sense for other reasons than gayness (being oppressed, visibility, etc.) and not in itself. As someone said, being proud to be gay for the sole reason that you are gay seems no less absurd than white pride.

Then again PA will be here to show us some WP soon.

It makes sense in the same way that 'black pride' and 'black is beautiful' made sense.

I'm no more proud of being gay than of being right handed, but in the context of all the advances made in getting discriminatory legislation shelved, then yes, I'm proud.

In any case, who needs a reason to par-tay?

It's not as if New Orleans' Mardi Gras or the Rio Carnival
is full of ardent churchgoers.
