well following some of the links about that story, it did say the name would live on in Half-life etc, but no mention of the Larry game

Vivendi......hmmm they the ones that did the 'hyped' Riddick game that offered a huge 12hrs approx of gameplay...........never rated them as a true gamers publishers anyway

Which might explain their predicamnet I know them for producing/publishing fairly poor games - mostly garish 3D games with little content beyond the visuals.

At least thats my impression of what their name means to me.

Idiots.

If you don't play MP you will *never* appreciate what Blizzard is to the gaming world.

Sierra bought out Impressions (makers of Caesar) and Dynamix (Makers of Willy Beamish/some other gmaes)

Then CDC bought them out.

then a French Sewage company bought them out.

Then vivendi bought Blizzard and a few other properties.

then vivendi bought Sierra from the French.

And that's how we get where we are today

It seems as though the industry is starting to drift back from the "huge bloated game companies" part of the cycle towards the "small sink-or-swim game companies" part. Interplay's in trouble, Sierra's in trouble...

'Course, last I heard, Sony's making money hand over fist. I consider them to be far more console based than PC-based, though.

Put an end to popups!

He's wrong.

Blizzard games suck horribly in single player mode. And some suck no matter what.

My lord, you HAVE all been living in a cave!

StarCraft and WarCraft III both have VERY enjoyable in single player campaigns. Playing mock-MP skirmishes against the AI is admittedly dull, but the SP *campaigns* are just incredibly fun and even compelling with their plotlines. I have to wonder what game you were playing.

As for Diablo II, I think it's rather dull myself, but I know a lot of people who would disagree with me on that one.

The SP "campaigns" of both of these games are horrible. All the scenarioes are "puzzle solving", meaning that you find the right way to approach the goal. There's very little strategy or tactics involved at all. The "civil war" type scenarioes are especially boring - they are just a big meat grinder.

By the way, I couldn't find any AI at all. It's just all scripts and triggers.

That's honestly the only way I can bet any RTS game and it makes them all the more enjoyable when you know what to do and what to look forward to.
-
As for comp. game co.'s not making any money- it's getting absurd here- I see games released last year being sold for the equivalent of $20 or 15 euros. and this is at major retail outlets...

hardly any games seeem to be going for more than $40! (I still remember the days back in 1996 where games were going up to $60!)

and frankly, I just had someone give me a gift of Battle Realms (2001) for $3 and I purchased Airlines Two (2002) for $5 and could have purchased MOO III for $5 and several new games.

Heck, I purchased Empire Earth for $5 last year
-
How can you not realize that computer games are in a bad way- they just don't sell!
