I'm testing to see our odds of dying to worms.
Odds of worms: 15%
Odds of dying to worms, given that worms appear: 6%
Odds of dying to worms: 1% (negligible)
In other words, we should pop that pod in 99% of cases.
There's another pod directly behind it, too - it's a good idea to pop that pod.
Even if our Spatrol is defeated, we can switch to a Spatrol on the occurance.
The MW can't spawn next to a base.
River idea: I agree.
Base at the endpoint of the river, and probe team moves west to catch a river ride.

There are ingame safeguards against stuff like that, Geo.
The low odds for dying are due to the massive power hit that native life takes this early.

Oops.
My plan sort of involved exploring downstream.
I guess I didn't make that clear. >_<''

Mindworm paranoia. :/
Here's the 'plan' for M.Y. 2104, as specific as I can make it:
Probe team to river at 21,71
Will move along the river 3 tiles, unless the 3rd tile contains a pod, whereupon the probe team will do nothing,
or if moving so would put it more than 1 movement point away from a pod off the river.
If the river branches, the Probe team will take the southernmost branch, for maximal exploration.
The scout patrol will move to 19,63 to pop the pod.
In the event of an energy pod, a switch to Planned is followed by a rush of the probe teams, so that they both complete in that turn.
Upon switching to Planned, the sliders will be reset to 50/0/50
If I have miscalculated, then only the probe in Kahlua Probing is to complete that turn - so that its Colony pod is produced first.
In the event of a unit on 19,63, the rover goes to 21,63 to pop the pod then moves so as to explore the most number of tiles.
In the event of a unit in the probe team's river, a screenshot is to be posted and further decisions made.

since the Lake is the end of a river...
Maybe this River is very short?
We should avoid popping a pod on it unless there is 2/3 of a movement point remaining.
If the river ends... wait next to a pod.
Otherwise, do what uncovers the most tiles.

The probe teams could explore around the pholus ridge and nessus canyon a bit more in order to locate some good base sites.
On the other hand, we could explore south of our initial bases for half-decent base sites.
We'll get the 2 new probe teams eventually.
I could rush them next turn, or wait for enough ECs to hit planned.
I'll make a poll on that.
After we've scouted out our immediate area, we should send the probes on infiltrator missions,
spreading them out so as to get the most pods and exploration as possible.

Screw the poll, it's better to rush the probes:
More pods, and as a result, more EC pods. We can probably switch to planned on the basis of that alone.
Infiltration sooner, before the other teams expect it and have probe defences up.
We don't even know if we want Planned or FM yet - it's too early to tell, but it's looking like a Planned landscape with that fungus and all those rainy tiles.
I'll rush the probes next turn, we'll get them by 2106.
Then the bases switch to Colony pods, with the Scout to protect them.
---
Scout patrol will enter fungus, and pop something in 2105.
I'll switch builds to the NetNode in case of a mineral pop, then switch back to avoid retool.
If it does not pop a unit, it will pop the next pod in 2106.
Probe team will move south on Maki's judgement.
Great. That's 2105 figured out.
