I've been trawling through the Hive forum from the old ACDG now for about... 7 hours... I thought these two were good examples of how a preturn planning session should go.

You should be able to access the posts & threads without being authorised in the Hive forum. Does anyone have any comments on this? Is there too much information there? Or is there not enough? Is the style of report in this post sufficient?

I want people to be able to see every action in a turn, and comment on what is good, whats not, what we should do next etc.

More "templates", if you like, will appear here as I trawl through more of the forums. Please make any suggestions as you see fit.

EDIT: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...023#post2577023 is an interesting post by HongHu. Is it fair to say that it's possible to be too precise with the turn planning?

Details are good. As HongHu said, though, understanding the goal behind the micromovements is key to offering suggestions and asking meaningful questions. I think there is a priority to what should be posted. Time, interest, responsibility level, etc. affect how much would actually be posted.

Really bad stuff... mind worms within striking distance of units or bases, contact with other factions' military units, etc.

Really good stuff... pod-pop autocompletes uber-crawler, infiltrated opponent, pop-boom initiated, etc.

Strategic goals accomplished or not, and future strategic goals.

How the strategic goals can be accomplished, in general.

Questions on game mechanics. (Will we lose lab points in xyz scenario?)

Everything else...

And last: Former and crawler movements to gain a mineral here and there. This stuff is clearly important for maximizing resources, but compare the number of people who actually care to the amount of work it is to take notes on all of it.

People can open the turn to see the littlest details for themselves. For people who don't have SMAX, or don't have time to look at the turn, screen shots are easier and more helpful than lists of coordinates.

I'm not dogmatic on this kind of thing... whatever people want to do, I gladly accept any contribution, large or small, broad or detailed.
