Evening an accidental rule break Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

The Data Angel's have accidentally broken the not finding bases in unexplored area rules. I have questioned them thoughally about it, and deliberated with Kody and Method about it, and I'm confident that the act was unintentional, as they claimed. However, in order to level the playing field, I am releasing the information they found to every faction.

That is that there is a Hive base on the square 40,42.

The rule is still very much in effect, and I have warned them against doing any activity that *might* reveal a base in the unexplored area, as it is the finding of the base there that is illegal, not any particular method of it.

If you do accidentally find a base there, please contact me immediately.

Hmm - so the Hive is to our southwest, on the side of what appears to be Mount Planet - or a reasonable facsimile of it!! That's 19 tiles from where our rover is currently (assuming straight overland)

Should we send our rover there? in 9 turns (earlier if Yang has sent a scout northeast from his location) we'll meet him - but he won't trade Doc Loyalty until the Command Nexus is completed

Thoughts?

This is the location of a Hive base. You can see the distance from our current explored area.

Which rover? Our current one, or a new one from Sparta Command or Santiago Citadel? In any case, if we send one, we should IMHO also keep one to further map our own immediate surroundings.

Does that rule always count? I was surprised to learn that in your comparison game, Morgan was willing to trade me IndAut (PTS), and the Gaians willing to trade me IntInt (CDF). They keep refusing to trade Bogenetics though.

I'm not sure I understand this rule. Not founding bases in unexplored territory?

No, it's against finding bases in unexplored territory. Basically, if you select a tile, the map will normally centre itself on that tile, but if there's a base there, it won't even if the tile itself is unexplored. Hence, you can sue it to find bases.

Also, you can use a unit, such as our rover, and click and hold on it to give it an automated route to follow

As you pull the cursor across the unexplored map, it says "The Hive" when it gets to that tile, indicating that that's where the Hive HQ is

Explicitly forbidden by the published rules

I talked myself out of calling on yang this early - let's wait until we have a squad of Impact Rovers to send his way - that way we might be able to bully him somewhat

I think that if they have started an SP, they won't trade the tech, but might trade it if they haven't

Increase Your PM Length

See Drogue's opening post to this thread - I guess he saw it discussed in the Angels' forum

I'll be interested at game's end to find out how they did it "accidentally"

I always forget we have these overseers. The only other demo game I was in did not have an overseer of any sort. Well not at first anyways.

Ask each turnplayer to send you his alphax.txt then compare for consistency

It is easy for a player to inadvertently leave an edit in there somewhere that provides an advantage only to their playing the turn (like offensive or defensive bonuses, movement points, research rate, etc) and it won't be obvious to a second player, even with infiltration

Tired of ads?

Just ask each player to check their date stamps.

The date stamp of the alphax.txt should be around 1999. If it isn't then they should look for one that is.

I just had to reinstall SMAC a few days ago because I had been messing with Gamma Correction, setting it to 400 and 000 (big mistake ), and the shade colours weren't right anymore when I changed back to normal. So I'm pretty sure my alphax.txt is standard at the moment.
