mmh, sounds delicious!

actually, that's what i liked most about the UK... all the various food. here, chinese food is either expensive or bad. thai restaurants are good, but expensive. japanese are not great but extremely pricy. you can only get good cheap italian and texmex food here.

Yeah London has some fantastic food - the Turkish here is my favourite - but you can get any kind of cuisine done perfectly if you look around.

I went to an Austrian restaurant once - this guy playing the accordion got the entire crowd singing along and swinging their steins. Fantastic fun! The pork knuckle was simply superb.

Now I'm really hungry!

but i'm going to watch F1 in 2 hours.

have you noticed how you have overtaken carthage by score and pulling away from them by 3-4 points every turn? are you already at 6 cities?

Not quite 6. I used to think I was quite good at REXing, but it hasn't seemed to come off in the games we've been playing.

sir ralph said the imminent starting positions are virtually the same, it's further around that makes a difference... so rexing should be pretty similar... but i guess i micromanaged more

interesting, I've always played by 'feel' I guess. By that I mean you do what you feel is right, rather than rely on calcs and all that jazz. looks like it'll cost me..

anyway, 1125 BC -->

well, i don't calculate 20 turns in advance to see if "A then B" or "B then A" is better. i just look at the city, add or remove food for something else if needed. i mean... if it's groing next turn with 2 food and i've got +4, why not put 2 food to shields, commerce, entertainment, etc?

Got spare money?

I do MM to a lesser extent. For example, I look at corruption to see if it's worth working a production/commerce tile or not. I'll make sure a city is at it's most productive while growing as quickly as possible.

I thought that if a city needs 2 food to grow, and it produces 4, then it grows and puts the additional 2 into next turn?

What about production? Say you need 2 more shields to build a temple, and you produce 4, does the temple get built and the extra 2 shields get put into the production box for next turn?

so, unfortunatly, nothing carries over, so you can just as well save too much output.

often, in late SP games, eg. when i'm pumping out modern armour, which needs 120s and i can produce something between 30 and 55s, then i'll keep just over 40 and switch the rest to food and commerce.

but i've seen a lot more extreme cases of MMing. in GotM and some older AU games, you've got people actually creating tables of size, food and production and do so for up to 100 turns. just to calculate what is the ideal production order. eg. a very early city can be good (i tried this in au601), but in pure rexing games maybe it's better to build a granary first. or even a worker, if there's only plains around you and not enough food.

i'm sure, if we compare our games to alexman's/jshelr's or nbarclay's/theseus', we'll see a lot more optimizing. and they are even playing at higher AI difficulty levels

That is too much work for me. I want to enjoy playing, and I want the play to flow. Calculating everying would interrupt that and dullen the 'feel' of the game. Just my view.
