As I have stated in my overlong thread elsewhere, I am pro-PAL, and fought with con to convince the team we should go with the proposed alliance.
We are working on a military venture with them, but this is not enough for me. If elected Consul (or even if NOT), I will certainly start chats with them more often if I can, and at least send them an email every now and again (maybe when the turn is sent) with little bits of info about what we are doing, eg that we have just built our xth city in this approximate position, started building our military etc. Little things they could probably find out anyway with careful attention to info the game provides, but they are just nice to know for sure, and may help to keep PAL thinking of us favourably, something we may need to watch out for seeing the results of previous polls they have had about us.
Else we are in a bit of a slow period right now, with the Nth American summer vacations ( I suppose.... it's COLD down here...), and there's not so much to do that isn't developing our cities and expansion on a fairly obvious course. I guess a little more discussion on City development matters could help, and it would be nice to set out a few city sites for the near future to refer to rather than poll one at a time. I'd certainly go back to my habits of looking over the new turns for any small thing the City Planner may have missed in his orders (he is certainly busy and needs the Consuls to watch out for this occasionally).
Generally it would just be as we have been going everywhere except in the foreign affairs matters, where I think a lot more talking is needed with PAL to keep them favourable towards us and thinking of us.

I hope that the past few months have been a good desmonstration of my abilities and leadership as a Consul.
This game and this team are my primary responsibilities online. My involvement in the PTWDG at this point is mostly just to hit "end turn" on the RP save, and I am no longer involved in the first ISDG game. This is the first forum that I check when I get the chance, and the team that matters most to me.
My style is relatively simple: I rely on my teammates and ministers to do their jobs and rarely step on toes, however, I still check and double check orders and plans to ensure that they all work together with our team's agenda.
I do my best to make sure that our turn is played on a timely basis. I always immediately report results and communicate to the team issues and concerns that arise from the save.
I poll issues and otherwise handle difficult team decisions in a democratic fashion.
I have tried to lead the team and lead the Consuls and have been actively involved in the vast majority of the saves.
Furthermore, I don't have an agenda with regards to PAL. I neither trust them nor desire their destruction. I have followed the team's wishes with regards to diplomacy and been the primary contact for F-P after Con went semi-active, continuing our policy of openness and cooperation.
I do not desire to feed them constant updates as MrWIA does, nor do I desire to lie to them or avoid them in any fashion. I do not believe that our alliance with PAL is in jeopardy, as some do, nor do I believe that "if we don't act really nice to them all the time they'll stab us in the back."
PAL will remain our ally so long as it's in their best interest. Our niceness has virtually no effect on their ultimate decision. They are not torn between two equally strong options, so we do not have to coax them to our side. They will be logical about their decision and so long as being our ally is logically superior to attacking us, they will proceed as we are now.
However, if our FAM (which I believe we should consider a replacement) decides to butter up to PAL, I would not oppose that. I am the sort of leader who finds capable and intelligent ministers and deputies and trusts them to do their job. Perhaps we should be considering MrWIA for the job of FAM, as he appears to have a keen interest in improving our relations with PAL.
Bottom line, you know what you get with me. I hope that my leadership over the past four months has been to your satisfaction and that you will confirm me for another term. Perhaps it would be wiser to elect MrWIA as a Consul next term, or for us to place him in a position as a Minister this term. The team will be better served with both myself and MrWIA both.

Aha! Time to riposte!
A desirable course for the Intersite DGs has always been to elect new people every now and again, to reduce the possibility of overload, to spread the Consular skills around, and to give more members of the team an overview of the game itself and how it is progressing - you really do get this from being more involved as a Consul. This is why, although none would fault Togas's duties to date, a change would not mean we think ill of him, or better of me. In fact if we were to desire Togas to be a sort of father Consul for our team further in the future, a break now would be a great thing for him and us to avoid overdoing it. He may well say he's not got to that point yet, but which would we rather - to give Togas the option of a rest now when things are quiet, or to have him possible facing overload in the future at a time we really need him or someone as competent as him? This would be one of the safest times to change Consuls around, with our plans for some time to come being dictated by our alliance.
And with that segue, to what I feel is the most important thing. The alliance with PAL is shaping our entire future, and we have made detailed plans following this. It is the one thing that should be foremost in our minds at the moment, and this is why I think a strongly pro-PAL person such as myself is necessary right now. Perhaps Togas is right, that when the war occurs we will no longer wish for or need such close relations, but at the moment that is what we have, and it would be folly to take it at half measures.
I wish to stress I do not support PAL over our own team's wellbeing now or ever, but since we have all decided PAL IS currently so important to us, I would value our alliance as highly as the team has voted for us to do. I would not be acting of my own accord, merely taking on the team's join decision as my philosophy (surely what a Consul should do?). We aren't alone with this alliance, and we need to stop acting like it and be far more inclusive if we are to do all we can to keep it on track.
And don't you think our willingness to work with PAL and 'befriend them' is another thing in their interests as well? If they ever consider warring with a team who is strong and capable (which they may do later in this game), wouldn't trying our best to keep close relations with them potentially be the final factor that gets them to attack someone less cooperative? And if it might help us a lot, and can't hurt us (as I have no intentions of PAL getting any info injurious to the team), then sounds to me like a very worthwhile thing indeed.
We are not voting to replace a Consul who is ineffective, idle or incompetent, but voting for a rotation. Regardless of the outcome of this poll, Togas will be Consul again, whenever he chooses to be, I think. With such a strong factor in our team, surely we want to spread the load around a little while it is easier, and save our very best for the times we need them the most. And if you ARE feeling at all let down by Togas, then voting for me is a chance to become disappointed in an all-new Consul or maybe even to find an alternative you prefer.
