I always thought the woman looking "slutty" (ie. Submissive) was worse. Still, there have been many, many, worse ads than this one, back to the bad old days of the "I wear a bikini and I want you to play board games" ads.

Mark, if we (my wife and I) don't like what we are seeing on TV we change the channel. Are you suggesting we should do the same here?

Lefty: The "Strawberry Daiquiris" ad for playlink (before your time here, IIRC) is the schoolbook example of the patriarchal ad. It shows a woman's body (not her face, mind) in a beach setting, allowing it to be as scantily-clad as possible, and is selling a completely unrealted product (on-line board games). The message, essentially, is "play board games and you get to sexually exploit women".  That's the same reason the submissive, surrendered woman in the ad is worse than the butt- the allusion is not to sex as such but to the female body being dominated by the male.

Like I said, we change the channel. The less people watch, the less advertisers are willing to pay cor commercial time. The station/network can either accept the lower revenues or change their programming.
The point was, the station/network/webmaster has a stake in the content of what is being offered. It is in the station's/network's/webmaster's best interest to make changes when things get too out of line from what people desire or accept.
You mentioned before that a pop-up blocker used by too many people could ruin this site. I haven't done it yet, but because of this site, and others as well, I have considered such software to block not just pop-ups but banner ads as well.
BTW, what ever happened to the idea of having users pay for an ad free site? Will that ever happen?

Your concerns are noted, but I feel that I must elaboarte on the circumstances so you understand where we are coming from.
The online advertising market is very different than the TV advertising market ever was, even during the former's "best of times". Unfortunately, some ads are going to come into question like this -- the level of what people can tolerate is inevitably going to vary. That said, we certainly would not condone anything pornographic and take action against such but, again remember, that we do not acquire our advertising directly and we do not choose which banners are shown ... that is UGO. Bills have to be paid and right now, we're doing all that we can. You can complain but not to us as we are powerless to do anything about it as I have said on numerous occasions elsewhere in similar threads in recent weeks on this subject.
As per pay access to Apolyton, this is not an option that we consider viable. It is not a proven model that can work on the Internet (with, ironically, the exception of porn) because people will generally just go somewhere else where they can get the same/similar content for free. I do not predict Apolyton ever going with a system whereby you would have to pay to gain access to certain parts over the sites that would otherwise be restricted.
