	Server is too busy!!! Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

ok I am not quite sure about this...

the server has been listed as too busy several times tonight...

There are currently 98 member(s) and 162 guest(s) on the boards.

just curious what is going on...

maybe I just need to register

That's really funny.

Looking at the active threads here it seems they mostly deal with whiney complaints about things that would not be happening to them if they only subscribed. It is the complainers who are sucking up all the bandwidth.

Complaints about something where there is an easy PLUS solution should merit a -1.

Sure- it's been busy before. When there's been 500+ members and guests, that is.

Now it's "too busy" dealing with half that amount. If we can trust the "too busy" message when it says registered users are given priority, that means it's struggling with fewer than 100 registered users.

If these figures quoted by Paddy are accurate, you appear to be looking at a nose-dive in performance, hitting non-plus members hardest.

Mark has exempted PLUS members from certain load saving features, but he has not (and I very much doubt he ever will) given PLUS members access when others cannot. So I'm puzzled at the basis for the statement that recent problems have hit non PLUS members hardest.

Also I'd add that those not willing to contribute to help the site have the resources to run smoothly are in a bad position to complain when there are problems.

yet it is my understanding that non-plus members still contribute to the running costs of the site... we have the adverts that the plus members pay not to have

we dont have an issue (anymore) with people simply browsing around the forums. we've got load spikes created by the search-related features.

we're fighting back with reducing the size of the "active posts" sql table. the last two weeks we've gone from 1.4 to 1.1 mil posts, going for 0.8...

if you mean that i'm spending my saturday between watching all kind of crap and semi-crap on tv, leading greece to the world cup on cm4 and making sure the archiving script runs continuously, yes
