Why to Reelect Togas Inflate your Upload Space

Why? Because you believe that I will continue to do a good job as Consul.

I'm not going to try to sell anyone on my Consulship or puff it up and brag about what I've done for this team and in the past. I too have countless leadership positions in previous (and current) games. My civ knowledge is equal to or better than MrWIA's. I am an attorney in real life, but I'm not a politician and I hate campaigning.

You have seen me in action for the last four months. I am the most active of the Consuls and have been involved in virtually every decision we have made thus far. If you believe a change needs to be made, then you may believe that by removing me, things will change.

If you do not believe that a change is needed, then I hope that you will vote to keep me. I believe that we have played a solid game thus far and I see no glaring needs other than our somewhat unresponsive FAM department. (but it would be nice if we had more active deputies too ...)

I firmly believe that my style of leadership is needed on this team. I compliment OctX's subdued style well and I counter Donegeal (who, unfortunately, has not been active) to create a balanced triad (when we are all present). I have the courage to tackle difficult situations, I know how to handle any sort of emergency. I get people involved, and I am excellent at dealing with the inherent time pressures of this game.

Lastly, I believe that the team trusts me to make the best decision and the decision that represents the will of the group. If you do not, then you should vote for WIA.

Should I continue at this job, you can trust that I will continue to responsibly carry out the duties of Consul. The team will remain in good hands with me.

* MrWhereItsAt steps up, Great Debate style

So, Mr Consul, would you say that our team's best interests are served by having not a single actively pro-PAL Consul at a time when the team has made their decision clear to ally with them in so close a fashion? I say that such a Consul is needed now, to indeed offset Donegeal (who has professed to not be much of a diplomat), and the somewhat absent OctX. Plus in the absence of an effective FAM, a Consul who was so inclined towards Foreign Affairs is an ideal investment for the future.

Put an end to popups!

I happen to think that having a Consul who is pro-PAL is a bad idea.

A good idea would be to have Consuls who are neutral. We need our leadership to be neutral, not to be in PAL's pocket or to serve as PAL's lapdogs.

Furthermore, if we need someone in the Consulship who is "inclined towards Foreign Affairs", then I would be the obvious choice.

Actually, it might be good, for someone who is neutral towards PAL, to still be in the Consular seat. That way, they can try to keep the Objective point of view in any debates that might occure, concerning any future events.

Where as, having someone who is more inclined to fully deal with PAL, might miss something that might later come back to haunt us. Going into something, with their Eyes opened, is the best to work through this.

With PAL still being a Virtual unknown, it would likely be best to remember that.

I think that I'll vote for Togas.

Firstly I shall agree with the latter part. Throughout all Civ3 DGs, Togas has been the FAM or Consul with the Foreign Affairs leanings. However, I have been doing so more recently as well. I may not be as experienced as Togas in this regard, but does that mean I am a lesser choice? I am enthused about a current Foreign Affairs situation, and prepared to back that up with contact. With some experience and the desire backing me up, I think that makes me as good a candidate as any for a position that may necessitate dealing with PAL and CDG.

This seems to have become the general campaign thread...

I happen to agree that having a Consular triumvirate who is pro-PAL is not the greatest of things. However, we are not talking about such an event. Neither OctX nor Kloreep, the other Consuls, are stated to be pro-PAL. Thus the leadership, if I am elected, would not have a level of interest in the PAL alliance even as much as mine. By having a pro-PAL Consul we gain the benefits of PAL seeing this, but at the same time none of the detriments of a bias or having a PAL 'lackey'. How? For two good reasons.

First is that I am experienced enough that I will not endanger our chances through any help or information passed to PAL. I do not do so now and never will. I believe most here know me well enough not to believe I would do so either. Secondly is that any major decisions are not fit to be taken by a single Consul in isolation, which is the whole purpose of having three of them at any one time. Decisions are taken (at present, I hope) in concert by the three Consuls (or at least two), and that is a further reassurance against any potential negative aspects of a pro-PAL Consul.

I have stated before I am pro-PAL only because of the merits of such a stance at the present time. This will likely not last forever, only as long as it helps us more than hinders us. My loyalty is unquestioningly with the Apolyton team and what is best for us, not PAL. The possible negative aspects to a pro-PAL Consul are only where that leader is RADICALLY pro-PAL, and I am no such thing. I supported the alliance with PAL and campaigned hard for it because I was convinced it was the best thing to serve our team well. The team voted and agreed with this. Now I support a close relationship with PAL because I have the wishes of the team members informing me this is what is wanted - this is not just me or a few others making this decision.

I believe Consuls should take on the team's thoughts as their own, and use that in their leadership role. So I happen to currently be of the personal POV that works best with what the team wants, surely making me ideal for the situation we are in.

Finally, Consuls are from time to time required to judge on unseen circumstances. If it was the best thing to do for our team to defy our general support for ties with PAL, and the Consuls as a whole agreed on this course of action, then that is what would be done.

In summary my support for PAL is backed up by the team, and I would not let my personal POV interfere with what is best for Apolyton.

I know some of you feel that it would be good to have both WIA and I as Consuls. I tend to agree with that sentiment, however, both of us cannot be Consuls.

Assuming I lose this election, I cannot nor will not guarantee that I will run next month. I may decide that after the month off I'd rather focus my attention on something else, or I may just become too soured to the whole thing that I become semi-active at best.

Who knows. I'm not going to make any threats or promises, but I do want to strongly caution that "Togas will run again" is not at all a certainty at this point.

Frankly, just having to write these posts in support of myself is not something I enjoy doing very much.

OK, sorry Togas. In the interest of fairness, I wll not do any more campaigning. I was starting to really enjoy it though, as I did against OctX last month.

Besides, unless there are questions at some point, I have said pretty much all I could think of for the moment, and have been repeating myself a bit, just clarifying points further.
