Has anyone had any problems getting Civ2 to run on XP? I know I had it up and running when I installed it because I have some saved game files, but now, every time I start it I get an message saying:
"Application Error
civ caused an access fault in civ.exe at 0x00000022"
This is true even after removing and reinstalling it. I'm also getting this same error message for several older games as well. I tried reinstalling directx and I ran file checker to see if any of my windows files were corrupt. I made sure I had the latest upgrades to my drivers and I disabled all of my startup programs (except for system files) to eliminate any conflicts. No results. Anyone got any bright ideas on what to do? Thanks
ps - one last bit of info, in looking for the latest update patch, I noticed it was v2.42, but the version on my cd is v2.42a and I can't find any references to this version on the web. Is there something unusual about the "a" version?

I tried downloading and installing the indeo files, but it didn't solve my problem. Thanks though! And to run it from dos, I would have to reformat my hard drive with a fat partition and install dos on that partition then install xp on a second ntfs partition. Then reload everything and have a dual boot system. Maybe I'm just being lazy, but it seems like surely there must be an easier way since it used to run on xp to begin with!
