Appeasing Dawn Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Dawn is a weird, weird kid. But I like him. I like the planet cult, I think it's a hell of a cool faction. The way I play, with worms as speeders and isles/sealurks as cruisers, he's a killer, too. Amazing. Beast. Destroyer.

Trouble is, when I play as Yang (I always play either Yang or Dawn) I can never get on his good side, except for when he needs a pact with me to fight some enemy. Does anyone have any diplomacy tips? I've even tried running Police State/Green(not planned, big deal for me because i almost never use psi).

Sub pacting always works, just go after him, take cities until he offers the submissive pact, also this means that you can build up those cities then give them back to him after the fact.

You could always try gifting him tech, energy, or even bases. I would prefer several planet busters, though.

Try different factions to get a better idea of how to play the game. Yang's playing style is much different from most of the other factions, and even Cha Dawn's is substantially different. Try Lal, Domai, and Santiago for some different styles.

I think that Dawn can be impressed in a simialler way to Santiago, run his Preference (Green) and have a strong military. Some factions like Morgan and Dee like gifts, others like Santiago are hard to "bribe" but have a strong military and they fall into line.
However if you hit #1 on the powerchart they arent going to like you much regardless, but they'll definitely like you better if your #1 from having a strong military rather than #1 from pop with NO military as such.

Obviously Yang cant be chums with Dawn because Yang likes Planned, a lot. Dawn can be chums with Yang by running Police/Green - it's not a bad SE if all you want to do is military conquest.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I’ve almost never been able to get along with the aggressive factions: If I am smaller and no threat then they see weakness (e.g. – good a victim); if I am much stronger they see a rival. I’ve occasionally gotten the erratic and passive factions to be friendly or submissive (without having beaten them to a pulp), but that’s rare.

Occasionally I have been able to keep good to excellent relations with the AI for very long periods of time. Some of these factors apply to aggressive factions like the Cult, but seem to be less important:

· Common enemy
· Lots of gifts (every time they call you, or you call them: you can manage this by NOT calling very often)
· Keeping sympathetic SE – avoid their aversions and try to get their preferences. This rules out most of the aggressive factions if you play a builder, and vice versa.
· Meet them early and get a good relationship that you carefully nurture from the get go. This way you’ll build up positive sympathy before your SE starts to diverge
· Be much bigger then them, but try not to have them be #2 to your #1, or vice versa (there is a huge antagonism built into the algorithm for the #1 and #2 to hate each other)

Good luck with the Cult. I usually find their empire is so weak and pathetic that there is almost no point in having a friendship treaty, much less a pact.

Plus, his (her? Its?) pink bases are ugly. Better to conquer them and give them to Dee. She LOVES new Cult bases!

Full PM-box? Change here!

When Dawn plays on Abundant native life, with PLANET giving you +20% to psi instead of +10% (after all, it should have more effect than morale), and mind worms as hovertanks... ooh, boy, you've got a killer.

Does it help to appease him to make frequent gifts of military units? I can't give him anything else, he won't pick up the damn phone. I'm currently the #1 power in the land, by a very large margin due to military attack. We're still using the Impact Rover as our prime offensive weapon, but I'm 1 tech away (!!!) from getting the gattling laser, after which point I intend to take over the rest of Planet. Is that considered early game here?

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Usually, yeah. A gatling gun military victory is early. But if you were on a tiny map or other variables, it could be seen as mid-game I suppose.
