Arrian, what am I missing here? Rushing an item and switching to another has been par of CivIII, since day one. I don't do it, because it just does not come up much, but why it is wrong?
I understand not doing it if we have all agree to not allow it. Actually I am not even sure how we save anything, except being able to put the gold in sooner, rather than later.
Maybe I don't understand what is being disscussed. If I got it right, it is we start a tank and maybe use 100 gold to finish the tank. We switch to a DD and it finsihes some number of turns sooner as we got the 100 gold into it.
If we just wait until we only need 100 gold to finsh the DD, it finishes in the same time, does it not? In the end we do not save any time.

erhm, that was not what I had in mind, vmxa1. By letting the queue fill as a tank, we take a bonus because of the mobilization, a bonus we wouldn't get when building the DD. So, by switching on the very last instance, we gain that bonus 'illegally', by tricking the game into thinking we're building a landunit, when it's only a placeholder for a naval unit.
I thought it would be a nice exploit, but personally, I don't think we should do it. However, I suspect the point is moot very soon: we certainly could use it while in mob, however by that time most of our navy will be built anyway, and no new ships are scheduled (apart from a carrier or 2). So our gain would be minimal... if I had thought of this 5 turns ago, I could have squeezed another 4-5 ships out of our land.
