Not with a 4G imac. It's packed in so close that you need some weird upgrade kit. I can't be arsed getting one, and I'm due for a new computer since this one is getting long in the tooth and it would be needlessly wasting money - I upgraded the HD last year and it will do for now. Having said that the machine is over four years old and still runs most new programs at an acceptable speed.

Your point is moot. If I'd bought a computer for the same price that was as easily upgradeable, I'd have to run Windows on it, and that is a price I don't care to pay.

Besides, I'm not spending any more money on this machine as it's reaching the end of its useful life. 5 years is pretty good for a computer these days.

That's true Q^3, but a powermac would be ridiculous overkill for me. The imac has been a faithful servant and I only ever had to replace the hard drive (thanks to the ****ing big blackout last year).

BTW, Seagate and Creative Labs just signed a contract to use Seagate's 5GB 1" harddrives, 1GB more than Hitachi's 4GB used in the Mini.

Word has it they're cheaper, too.

IBM worked with PortalPlayer first, IBM designed a mini-harddrive based player first, and then IBM's new management canned the project, and a year later the iPod comes out.

Um. What exactly did Apple design with the iPod?

Small harddrive? IBM/Hitachi.
Circuitry and DSP? PortalPlayer.
Casing and style? Apple.

It's certainly possible to design a case/style around other people's technology in a year. Hell, even the Firmware from it was based on PortalPlayer software.

As for the iTunes thing...iTunes existed well before the iPod, and the iTMS didn't launch at the same time as the iPod.
