Message from PAL that came with 1450 save:

quote:
Brothers of Apolyton:

Please be advised we have completed Mapmaking and expect to complete Mysticism in 4 turns.

Please be further advised that we are now surging towards the eastern coastal ivory, and are concerned about the destination of a settler we believe was recently built in CDG's capital - if you sight this unit, we would appreciate any/all information about it.

Our preparations continue impressively, and we hope the same can be said for you.

The first thing I notice is that CDG sent us CoL....UNACCEPTED! Someone tell them how it is important we get CoL BEFORE we get Philosophy so we can both (all ) benefit from this deal....

My thoughts...

Phobos II should go NE next to the Barb camp (which has a Horse and 2 Warriors in it) to take them on. He may become an Elite (vet ATM), and that means an extra 25g too. The Barbs only attack units to their NW or SE (7 or 3 on the keypad), so he will be safe to attack or rest whenever he wants.

The new worker: we are working an unimproved grass along the river at Poly. Thus I think we should road it, or irrigate one of the plains along the river. This will not take as long as a grass mine, and will give us either more trade from the same tile, or an extra shield to play with for the same food.

New Warrior in Hypnos.... possibly move to the next city site, making it safe for the settler to come in two more turns. Else NW to take the place of Bellerophon, who can go on to challenge those barbs in our NW. Being a Hoplite he should be able to handle an attack easily until he reaches and destroys the camp.

Grog 8 (exploring near PAL's borders) or 3 (unknown mountainlands). Anthea 8 (more unexplored land N of PAL). As for the build in Hypnos, we should think about a worker, as we only have three of them. We definitely need SOMEwhere to build one soon.

WF and all else looks fine.

Has this ever been proven? I'm honestly not sure about that. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and order it.

I like the idea of setting him up as sentry, and sending Bellerophon deeper in. We will have one turn where our sight is limited, but I think it'll work out, especially if we get a veteran Bellerophon out of it.

The Barbs in C3C v1.22 only attacking NW or SE has been documented by others. Proven? I don't think you could prove something like that wihtout detailed knowledge of the code governing AI behaviour (and stuff that Firaxis/Breakaway overlooked too ), but I have not seen it compromised yet. I have tested it in many real games of mine - both MP and SP. If you are in one of those two directions you WILL be attacked, no matter what the odds, whereas otherwise they stay fortified. This is most obvious when you pop a hut of barbs. The ones to your SE/NW will attack, the others will move towards anything distant they see in that direction, or will otherwise fortify right there.

The vet Bellerophon idea sounds great. Bel WILL be open to attacks as he moves NW towards the camp though.

Results for 1450bc

Played in chat at midnight GMT using posted orders with Kloreep, WIA, and a bunch of other people idle.

CDG offers us Code of Laws UNACCEPTED. We accept.

Hypnos builds warrior. Name him Achilles
Poseidon's Harbor builds worker. Name him Unnamed Worker

Phobos II moves 9

Unnamed Workers move 8 9 8

Achilles moves 7 7 7

Grog moves 8. Discovers a new PAL city.

Anthea moves 8. More PAL high-quality unsettled land.

workers

Roads R Us finished Road, but is frozen.

Oppressed Laborers will finish Ivory next turn and then be frozen.

Cities
HYPNOS set to build archer in 5 turns.
POSEIDON'S HARBOR set to build archer in 5 turns.

Workforce
Traded tiles between APOLYTON and POSEIDON'S HARBOR. Poly gets cows. PH gets bonus grassland.

ISSUES OF NOTE
We did not move Bellerophan from his mountain perch yet. We have a barbarian horseman on our border and we need to keep him off the mountain and see which way he goes. We'll move Bell next turn, most likely to protect the worker pair, and move Achilles onto the mountain perch.

Still no new CDG cities.

CDG is missing the same techs.

No one is building wonders.

We are rank 4 in Land Area, but remain rank 3 in all other major areas.

City Sizes:
PAL 5
CDG 2
BAT 7
GWT 2

Put an end to popups!

Let me turn that question around, Uber. Why did you want to move Bel off the Mtn when it would have meant the Barb Horse that just appeared would be able to either attack Bel without the great defense bonus it currently gets or could have moved to the Mtn vacated by Bel, making it difficult to kill next turn, and making it a danger to our improvements around Apolyton?

I think it was the best move to leave Bel there this turn. The barb horse will likely attack Bel and die now, meaning we can move Bel off next turn, or it will have to be somewhere that Bel can get at it without the defensive bonus from the Mtn.

Good move, Togas +Oct (+ missing Don ). I think I unidled long enough to agree with it, too.

Yes, we were worried about the horse taking the mountain. It would be able to endanger the worker from there, and we don't have an Archer in the area to confront a 2-defense horse.
