I really don't understand why you guys are piling on Lancer.
Considering the extremely rude and disparaging remarks made about his wife and her family, there really is no justification for being upset about any subsequent punishments.
He openly complained and the situation was dealt with. I think it is pretty ironic that certain posters who take exception to his outrage are usually those who make a career out of complaining aobut every little thing on this site.

Bottom line: don't be an extreme ass to people and there won't be any trouble. Plus, we should all think about conducting ourselves on a "Golden Rule" basis.

Regardless of how I personally feel about a poster (and I happen to think Lancer is a great guy) I will defend any one of you who is being unmercifully ragged on. Even you tight assed Euros.

Let's give it a break, shall we?

Still, look at it from PH or Ecthilion's POV- if anyone has a problem with the way you or the other two moderators act, would you rather we go to you first, or just complain directly to MarkG or DanQ? Of course you wouldn't deny us the right to go straight to the admins, but it'd be greatly preferable to complain to the person you have a problem with, right?

I'd be glad to see you take a stricter and broader approach towards this MtG, as long as you remember to direct the blame where it's due. I'm quite confident you will, too.

Concerning PH and Ecthelion and their problems with people not directing complaints direcly to them: Whatta you say all the people who don't have a problem with either of them drop them a PM? Be much easier on all of us, I think.

I'm joking!

I don't think it's THAT bad, winston...

I could pretend to care for this discussion now, but I don't, period. None of you will get me anywhere... Of course, I take MtG's and Ming's statements very serious, they're the mods after all, and I know both do a good job... but silly posters starting threads against me have never reached anything positive.. the CGN thing, that's in the eye of the beholder, but apart from that...

Plenty of people have addressed issues with PH and Andz, directly. Why should they bother further at this point. (note I am coolio with PH. Andz sometimes acts like a spoiled 14 year old, but that could be becasue he is/was... (For the record, I've never complained about either. And am vastly unafraid of encountering them on the boards or schoolyards!)

I like Lefty's comments...

Not necessarily. If somebody's pissed at me, and gets in my face, I am inclined to respond in kind, and instead of resolving the issue (especially if there's a history, like Lancer and AH), you can simply harden positions and attitudes towards each other.

If you go to a third party, and want to accomplish anything other than reducing your blood pressure, you have to try to be reasonable in what you say, or you blow all credibility.

I've already had someone go directly to Mark about me, and I don't have the slightest problem with him (other than his conduct that led to five DL bans) doing that, or with having to explain my side of things to Mark.

Sometimes it's better to go to a third party. Sometimes not. But nobody should be ragged out, especially openly with all sorts of third parties jumping in with their two cents worth, for using whatever method they choose to complain, unless there's something else going on there - such as lying about the other poster, (as opposed to telling the truth as you see it), etc.

If I act on something as mod, as far as I'm concerned, it's irrelevant to me and to the poster I'm dealing with if I act because of someone else's complaint, or my own observation of the situation. In either case, I'll check the situation out, and make my own judgment call as to what I think is appropriate.

Well I would just like to clarify that my last comment was in no way a reference to Lancer either despite what some of you are probably thinking. Truth is, I really don't have a clue who these stool pigeons are, I just wish they would be more upfront. I've always liked Lancer. I know I have had a joke 'at' him in the past, but then again, I doubt there are many people who haven't been the butt of my jokes at some point...but I always mean them in the nicest possible way, except to CivNation

The official policy of this site is that (some) complaints be made by PM or Email, for you whiners who cannot reconcile yourself to that policy piss off and go elsewhere to where policy fits your personal view of conflict resolution. That said I, personally see very few occaison where complaint about offense is needed; I am pretty hard to offend.
As for spam accusations against PH, I have publicly POSTED several satiric remarks about thousands of cherryade posts, and have posted similar remarks about other spammers. Spammers are a pitiful object of humor to others, and naturally attract such attention. Such derision, in the long run, may reduce spamming more than official means.
As for the silly challenges of offenders who say "fight me to my face", I would suspect that often when offense has reach that point to complain, the offendee now veiws you as beneath their dignity, and not worthy of direct confrontation, and that you should have your lease tugged by an admins, as if you were a naughty dog. But I expect the psycology vaires greatly from offendee to offendee, and I have little experiance more recent than teen age years to draw on in that area.
<img src=/forums/"/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

OK Lefty, I make posts in the Coffee shop which are of a spammish nature, after all, that is what it is there for. Why should it bother you providing I am not making a pain of myself in other threads. Sometimes I like to add a quick witted comment; sometimes I can sum up my feelings in a few words rather than an MtG-esque rant, although sometimes I do the latter when the situation is necessary and I need to clarify my position, but this often doesn't become necessary until later in a thread and the discussion has snowballed and there are themes and undercurrents in the thread that warrant a lengthy analysis. I am a little more ubiquitous a poster than some make me out to be. I can be a 'funposter', I can be sharp and critical and cynical. I can also debate points and topics when I am particularly interested in a topic or theme, or can speak from a position of experience and knowledge. My intentions are never to spam, for example, smiley bombs or repeated posts...often they are to coax people to reply (yeah, troll, if you must call it that)...but it is all done with the best of intentions...my intentions towards Apolyton have never been malicious.

Not permanently (they just make DL's anyway, like some we all know ), but a "Ban 'em all, let God sort 'em out" approach the next time a group of posters does the whiny-schoolgirl-catfight-in-the-playground thing is definitely among the possibilities.

"smiley bombs", godd phrase coined there, PH. I have pretty much soured on the coffee shop. There were some interesting story like arcs there when I first log on 6 months ago. I really enjoyed my woodchuck wars, which was joined a a few other persons, but the coffee shop seems to be entirely void of content now, probably due to incompetant commie mannagement by Mao. I won't spend a nickle or a minute in that PRC loving propagandist's shop any more.
