Ecthelion.
I am sick of seeing him post his crappy smilies five times in a row. I am not normally one to complain, but I think he has gone too far. It degrades the forum to allow this immature behaviour.

I agree, this guy gets away with murder! I thought it was against the forum guidelines to spam that much.

So I am not the only one who thinks he has got out of hand lately. Ever since that thread asking where he is was created he has been spamming with a vengeance!

I totally agree. The "Lancer" approach to whining is rather cowardly- if you have a complaint, say it straight to the face of the person you're complaining about instead of sneaking behind his back. Let him know who his enemies are.
And Andy is not that bad. There are worse offenses than a bit of mindless funposting...

I'd rather have enemies than false friends that betray me behind my back.

No, but I know from real life experience that it's perfectly possible to appear to be someone's friend while all the time actually disliking that person. I have been guilty of this myself, and I've had it done against me more times than I can imagine. Dishonesty is never a good thing, and complaining about a person but not to him is, in my mind, a form of dishonesty.

I really dont care what he thinks of me if I complain publicly, so thats why I am creating this thread. I think we should make an example of this young whipper-snapper! Spam will not be tolerated on this forum.

I can't disagree with that either, Snap, as I have seen it done to many times myself. I prefer to be straightfoward with people, and if I dislike them, they find out about it quickly. Andy is a bit of a kid who goes overboard at times, but he's not a bad guy. Besides, I just think it's ill-mannered to attack someone openly in such a forum. Has the DL tried talking to him directly? If you challenge someone out in the open, they feel honor bound to defend their position, for appearences sake, if nothing else. If you appraoch them in confidense, and explain why you dislike their behaviuor, you can often get better results.

True. The best solution is talking directly to the person, via ICQ/e-mail/PMs. The worst solution is going directly to the moderators (unless the disruption is blatant and obvious). This solution is somewhere in the middle, but sometimes it is the best one...
How I would complain:
1) PM that person and try to be nice about it.
If I got an impertinent response:
2) PM that person and try to be nasty about it.
If she continues to be nasty:
3a) PM a mod about it.
If she raises an interesting point instead and it would be appropriate to involve more people in it:
3b) Post a thread about it.
So, yes, when put like that, I agree with you. I just don't agree with this idea that going straight to the moderator is the correct way to handle a complaint.

Snapcase, the only thing cowardly around here is calling a guy "cowardly" that you don't see face to face.
You accuse me of going behind peoples backs, well you're hiding behind the internet. You know I can't get to you, can't give you what you deserve for such an attack, so you feel safe, yes? That makes it easier, yes?
When I respond to attacks by guys like you on myself or my family I have no choice but to go to the mods about it, and I make no secret that is what I do. I do not go behind peoples backs, I tell em I do it when I do. I usually ask for moderator involvement right on the spot, right in the thread. I don't hide like you do.
Unless you want to get together and call me "cowardly" to my face?
Here's something right out in the open...
Mods...
Why do I have to put up with constant attacks on my family and myself? When are you going to take out the damned trash and make this a fit forum for non trollers and spammers?
Come on, I challenge you...take out the trash.

And what does it say about someone who insults and backstabs another poster when he knows of a well-publicized ban that prevents that poster from answering in his own defense?
Just to make sure it's clear, I don't want public pissing matches on the forum. If two people settle things privately directly between themselves, that is preferable, since it doesn't take our time. If they can't, this isn't a schoolyard where you call someone out, and both party's friends join in to cheerlead.
If there is a public "complaint" made in the OT forum about a poster's behavior or statements, and it turns into a whinefest, my response will be to shut it down on sight, and I may do more with the individual posters.

Yes, there are worse things, which is why he ends up doing a bunch of it before each time he gets banned. In our judgment, if it's frequent enough, or disruptive enough (assuming we see it, sometimes we'll miss something), then we'll take action.

Lancer -
attacks on your family (or anyone's) have been dealt with, and will be dealt with in the future.
For an attack on you, (same rule applies to anyone), if you deal with it by responding to it, that takes care of it, unless it keeps up, or it becomes a many on one situation.
Otherwise, if it's severe enough (unless everyone is your friend in real life beforehand, the internet is going to be contentious sometimes), we'll deal with it. People can and do express their opinions of other posters, and some of those opinions aren't nice.

Yeah, your right MtG. It's the constant nature of the problems that I've had with some of these guys since the end of the Karen Mills threads...it's begining to wear a bit thin. My threads get spammed, I get trolled, my family attacked (thanks, yes that's resolved) and now this personal attack. I just wish it would end. I wish some of my fellow posters had the character to realize that personal attacks are not a gutsy thing to do in a situation where a proper response isn't possible. This isn't the first time for this either. First was Dookie, which ended in personal attacks against my wife (dealt with) and then with AH, who called me some not particularly nice things, and I did the same right back in an effort to show him that the NATURE of the attack doesn't allow one to RESPOND. However that ended up with everyone thinking I was attacking AH.
Anyway, it's like Chinese drip torture. I'm here just like everyone else, trying to have a little bit of recreation at my favorite Civ site. Hell, I can't even be banned in peace...
Give it a break!
Thanks MtG...
Lance
