	Help! Graphics problem! Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

For as long as I remember, I've been having a problem with working with pcx graphics. Whenever I try to save a pcx file I've been editing a bit, or whenever I copy a part of a pcx file and want to save that bit as a new file, I encounter a weird problem. Instead of the picture saving as I want it to save, it always turns into a miniature version of the picture. For example I just tried to copy and paste the Spartan Emblem in the upper left corner of Spartans3.pcx and save it into a new file, but when I do that, it always turn out like the file I attached.

Does anyone know what causes this, and how it can be solved? Please help this graphic-ignoramus.

I don't know what the problem is, perhaps you can save it as a gif instead of resaving it as a pcx. Not much else I can suggest.

I use IrfanView to do my bidding when it comes to graphics, and with it I managed to extract the emblem from the different parts of spartans3.pcx. What program do you use Maniac?

Which one was it that you wanted for the article? The fourth one?

The problem occurs with Corel Photo House. And saving to another format like .gif doesn't help. Even if I just open a pcx file, don't change a thing, but immediately save it again, this problem happens.

As for the article, the above two pictures are black symbol on black background, so as a consequence you can't see part of the emblem. Therefore one of the two last pictures would be better IMHO.

Btw, I noticed Googlie uses this one on the Spartan website:



Perhaps this one could be used? That way we save some upload space for other stuff.

Edit: Hmm, the img link doesn't seem to work on that picture.

I think it's bandwidth protection stuff. They might not want other sites using their bandwidth by linking images. *shrug*

Have you considered opening a pcx file in paintbrush and saving it as another format. I edit all my pictures using paintbrush.

what isn't working for you? I can see the logo in your post

(and I use Microsoft's Photo Editor for all my stuff - cropping and overlaying is so easy with it)

I see "image hosted by Tripod", obviously the bandwidth protection thingus. Using Firefox by the way.

It may show up on Googlie, if it's from Googlie's site, because Googlie has visited his site lately and thus the image has been cached by his browser.

If you just see a red cross (inside a white rectangle?) then isn't it just that your firewall isn't letting the pic display?

I get that often, then have to temporarily disable Zone Alarm to show it (right clicking brings up a message "display image?", then when I do, it appears)
