The following was sent to FortyJ as requested:
quote:
Hello FortyJ,
Thanks for agreeing to moderate this mess. I will give you a brief outline of what happened:
Apolyton planned an invasion of GWT in the Ruhrpott area, which is where their FP is located. The invasion was set for 740 AD. When we opened up the 740 AD save we were surprised to find out that GWT had blocked precisely the tile we had counted on landing on. There were a number of GWT units blocking landing sites as well as 2 galleys blocking the rest.
A number of our team members became suspicious since there were only two places where GWT could have spotted parts of our fleet the turn before. This would have required fortified galleys in these precise locations. Of course, there was no way to know if GWT had in fact placed these galleys in the right spot and spotted us and the majority of us merely thought that GWT had acted smart and defended an area which was the most likely invasion spot we could land on. The most vocal of those persons who suspected GWT was cheating was E_T. So much that as soon as we were about to play the 740 AD save, he directly disobeyed the ISDG rules, opened up the previous 730 AD save and moved Apolyton units differently to check out if GWT had galleys which would’ve been able to spot us. He knew perfectly well that such an act could very well lead to his removal in the team since it was in direct violation of ISDG rules, but did it anyway since he was highly suspicious.
We asked E_T not to disclose the details of what he saw in the 730 AD save. All he mentioned to us was that from looking at that turn, he had “proof” that GWT could NOT have spotted us, and thus the fact that they came to block us next turn confirmed the suspicion of an irregularity on GWT’s behalf.
Again, I do NOT know what E_T saw; therefore I cannot confirm his “proof”. That is the reason we wanted a neutral admin to check out the saves and see if in fact there was no way that GWT could have spotted our fleet on 730 AD. I have attached the last 3 saves as requested. The password for the saves is “Unity69”. Comparing the path of our fleet through these 3 turns vis-à-vis GWT’s galley placement (you probably know this already but just in case, fortified galleys have a 3 tile spotting range instead of the regular 2) should prove or not if GWT was able to spot our fleet.
Besides this, I would also like to ask you about the status of E_T in our team. Currently he does not post anymore in the ISDG forum nor is he present in our chat. The ISDG rules say that when a member obtains information outside of that available by “legal” means that 1) he keep it to himself and 2) he remove himself from participation until such information no longer gives him any unfair advantage in game knowledge. We would like to hear GWT’s opinion on this matter also as they should have say if E_T is determined to continue on the Apolyton team.
Anyway, it should go without saying that the details of each team’s movements and positions should not be revealed to the other (obviously the E_T issue can and should be shared with GWT), which is why we wanted you as a mediator. It is up to you to decide if in fact there was any foul play or inconsistencies on GWT’s behalf based on our saves and theirs. Just so you know, the ONLY tiles where GWT could have spotted our fleet are Elfenhain 1-1 (would have spotted 1 caravel) and Elfenhain 7-7-7 where they would have spotted our main caravel stack. The only way to spot these would have been with fortified galleys in those two exact spots in 730 AD. There are no other ways - that we know of - that they could have spotted us unless of course they had the landing zones defended since various turns before.
Once again, thank you very much for your time and hopefully we can get the game rolling soon.
Best regards from Apolyton!
