A time of discovery and exploration…
2070BC:
‘Hermann The Hermit?’ Psychopaticus Maximus laughs at his own old joke. Add it to the roster!’
MS comments:
The Germanic Tribes (GT for short) are contacted. They have BW, Mysticism and the Wheel. No trade for now.
1910BC:
‘And they are building a big, pointed hut of stone? They must be mad, those Egyptians!’
MS comments:
Egypt contacted. They have BW, the Wheel and Mysticism. No trade for now.
1830BC:
‘You lazy sons of apes, I will teach you the meaning of the word WORK!’ Psychopaticus Maximus is really angry, he just learned that we are definitively a backwards civ.
MS comments:
Our scout tell us the following:
Rome: 2 cities and 1 Settler.
Persia: 6 cities.
GT: 4 cities.
The Celts: 4 cities.
Carthage: 4 cities.
Egypt: 4 cities.
1750BC:
‘Ah finally a sweet discovery. Scribe! Start putting in stone, parchment and papyrus my exalted deeds, and don’t forget any of them!
MS comments:
We discovered Writing and are researching now Philosophy. Since we are the first one, it’s time to trade it around; therefore, Writing for the Wheel, Mysticism, BW and 70 gold with Carthage, IW and 26 gold with the GT, 41 gold with the Celts, 17 gold with Persia and nothing with Egypt.
I am always a bit reluctant to trade Writing on archipelago maps, since soon afterwards the first Galleys start to appear. On a Pangea map however, this tech seems to be a killer. We are now at tech parity at least.
1700BC:
‘Oh hear my plea, great Zeus, and give me the strength to conquer my foes! In exchange, I offer you this mighty sacrifice!’ Psychopaticus Maximus chants.
MS comments:
Our 3rd city, Antium is founded by sacrificing the Oliphants.
1650BC:
Contacted Babylon. They ARE really backwards and lack Alphabet, the Wheel and Mysticism. No trade possible.
1475BC:
Contacted Greece. Traded Writing for 28 gold and disbanded both Curraghs.
1450BC:
‘Now that our fat sages discovered this Philosophy, I will start dictating you the first chapter of my immortal work, which I will call ‘Maximus’ Moral Precepts for Excellence’’
MS comments:
Traded Philosophy for Polytheism with the GT, then Philosophy and 18 gold for Mathematics with Carthage and finally for HR with Persia.
We got Monarchy for free and went into Revolution.
1400BC:
‘Yesss, my precious archers, hit them, and hit them hard!’ Psychopaticus Maximus’ own words upon declaring war on Carthage.
MS comments:
The 1st war with Carthage was long due. The goals were very pragmatic: stop their encroaching on us (from the south-east and had just founded a city near the ivory) and destroy one or two cities, then make peace.
We stared the war with an ‘army of 2 vets and 1 elite Archer, plus another vet Archer as Settler bopper on the other side of their empire.
Except for Barbs generated by hut popping, we found no trace of them. Is that a bug?
All other civs, except the Greeks, had at least 6 cities and we had only 4 (and a Settler under way). We were researching Currency at 90% (in 27 turns, just before our Revolution).
