Colonization II?? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Has anyone heard if and when this is going to be worked on? By Sid and Company?

I know about the freeware project at CGN..

And I know Sid and gang are working on Pirates.

But I haven't heard anything about Colonization II in ages.

honestly i would rather see Civ IV have the engine that could handle a full-blown colonization scenario.

Oh, I agree, a new colonization, master of magic, and alpha centauri would be better IF civ4's engine is not build to the modding standards of making those games as full scenarios. However I doubt civ4 will be that robust, so yeah, those games will probably be best as standalones if they are released.

It would be great if you could recreate the Colonization trade system , unit model, and continental congress in a C4 scenario. How customizable might a Col2 be?

Does Firaxis have the rights to do Col2, or would they have to buy it from Microprose? Have they done so already? Perhaps they'd buy it to incorporate it into Civ4?

I recall that when Firaxis bought the rights to Pirates! a while back, it was part of a package that included Colonization.

Just looking a the ColToo project. It looks like they could use some guidance. As I see it, they don't even have a design document. Pretty hard to do anything without that.

They could do with some fixed parameters for artists to work with, although putting the cart before the horse does seem pretty central to the project's approach...

Personally, I find the time period to be particularly appropriate to the whole 'build-cities-to-achieve-economic-and/or-military-dominance' theme of the Civ genre. Ending the game with a war for independence also is a lot more satisfying than any of the more specious victory conditions in Civ.

While Colonization was enjoyable, what IŽd really like to see is a combination between SMAC/X and Civ III. That would truly be the greatest game in history!!

But if Colonization II becomes a reality, IŽll check it out nevertheless
