speed Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to speed up end of turn calculations? I have a P4 2.3GHz CPU and 1GB RAM. I have plenty of free disk space. Any ideas of the major source of slow down during calculations?

Thanks!

Major contributors are map size & amount of civ's.

What do you mean by slowdown btw? You shouldn't experience any, nothing serious anyway.

Presing shift will speed up enemy unit movement.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I guess I mean, given a huge map and lots of civs, what are the major contributors to speeding up end of turn calculations? Is it CPU speed, disk access time, memory, can civ3 exploit multiple CPUs?

For example, I'm playing one scenario from CivIII Conquests that takes at least 5 minutes for the end of turn calculations. I would like to figure out how to speed this up, if possible.

Thanks

Civ was originally made for a max of 8 civs only and regular maps only, keep that in mind, they changed all this because because wanted more.

Memory is very important for a game like this, IMO 512 is the absolute minimum, then comes the processor and last and almost negligable is your vid card.

However, playing huge maps with 32 civs will take time no matter how many gigs you have. The calculations involved are simply enormous. Nothing you can do about that I'm afraid. Do as most here do and try to use that time usefull, I'm often did some vacuuming or the dishes during turns etc..

A good idea is to eliminate some civs.

Oh btw, AFAIK, there is NO game that uses multiple processors at the moment. I do know one of the DEV's saying once they might do this for the next game ( Civ? ). Let's hope they do, though I don't think they will to be honest.
