	Missive from PAL ... Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Respected neighbor CDG:

Our intention was never to unnerve or upset you with our warriors, but merely to watch. In our community, this action would not have been taken in a hostile manner, and we apologize if that sentiment was unintentionally transmitted.

Unfortunately, we are not sure that the same can be said for your most recent action. You have for several turns clearly seen the development of our infrastructure towards the ivory, and clearly seen the progress of our units to acquiring it. You have now - without negotiation or comment - stepped into the way of said infrastructure in a manner which is both clear, considered, and callous. This is not the action of a friendly nation.

We were, prior to the receipt of the turnsave, ready to withdraw our warriors with sincere apologies for any offense we might have committed unintentionally. Our troops are numerous enough that we cannot and do not carefully ponder each movement on any given turn, and some of those which appear inconsequential are ignored. Now, unfortunately, they must remain, as we are no longer certain of the goodwill of our southern neighbors. At such time that your warrior no longer impedes our development, our unintended blockade (which would not have been blocking yours had you chosen any other course of action, as we would have happily moved for you to pass) must remain.

We would like to point out that we were, in complete honesty, about to contact you about a road between our nations, for an exchange of luxuries... but your actions have actually blocked that road's progress, both physically, and diplomatically.

We now await YOUR response, and corrective action, so that we may reconsider a much more harmonious and peaceful future together. If your intent is to remedy this situation satisfactorily, we urge you to move Jarl Brent to the west. If your intent is to worsen the situation, we will regretfully note Jarl remaining in his current location, or in any way interdicting our further just efforts, as a hostile act, whose intentions for your people cannot be considered by just and reasonable men.

This could be used to advantage if CDG starts to see PAL as hostile. As long as we can keep CDG onside (that means continuing to make tech trade deals, whether we intend to complete them or not and giving helpful advice where we can - they seem to not mind our lead in the tech deal stakes), we can hopefully lead them to believe we are their friends, so they will focus more on PAL as the enemy. Then when the wartime comes we may be able to stage a backdoor invasion that they are less prepared for than if PAL commenced the attack.

Perhaps we should do our best to engage CDG on permanent borders and sharing of lux for the future. Of course it will never reach that far, and we can promise a bit more than we will ever get around to - anything to keep their guard down with us. Playing on their fears about PAL a bit could well help us (and of course PAL too, but if we get an easier invasion then it's a little extra bonus for us over PAL whilst still keeping our alliance).

I had the idea earlier of asking PAL whether they have sent this message yet, and enquiring perhaps a little further about what led to it. Also it would be an idea to ask them what the message they are sending to CDG actually is - to put them on their guard, to just plain warn them off, or some other dastardly scheme. Then we can best use any heightened tensions to our benefit.

I don;t see why we can't discuss this in this thread... it's not like the forum has been choking under new threads recently, and it keeps the CDG thread free for actual communications.

I just think its better to minimize the number of threads we discuss a topic in.

I dont care either way, but I think the place to talk about how we are going to answer CDG is the CDG thread.
