blah apoly had a brainfart (or a serverfart?) just a minute ago when i had a long post done =/

Summary:

with selfbiased and MWIA as alternates, or part of a second game if we can get that going

Please respond (1 per team at least) with:

CUSTOM or RANDOM map
Map Size - Standard? Bigger? (Smaller?)
FAST or NORMAL start

i'm not speaking on behalf of aqua - these are my comments that may not match his ideas.

i'd say:
- standard size, 60% or 70% water
- random map (but pangea/continents/archipelago decided beforehand) with max 1 restart request per team.
- chosen civs
- fast start=2 settlers? i don't really mind...
- slowed down tech pace as alex recommended (maybe some techrate between standard and large.

Whether its 3 teams or 4 teams may not make much difference to speed. If one person disappears (as in the team game I'm playing that MWIA has referred to), the whole thing stops.

The most important thing is getting consistent players, and it seems from the roster so far that we've achieved that already.

As for fixed time slots, I agree with Paddy. I can't guarantee a certain timeslot, but I can guarantee I'll play my turn every day barring holidays or other inconveniences (but don't quote me on that ). Commitments change over time, so fixed slots will probably be hard to keep to after a while.

As for format.....if we're worried about "dogpiles", perhaps we could consider making it a silent PBEM (apart from partners). The interaction between partners makes it fun anyway, and that may be all we need to make it interesting.

My main request - please don't make it AP. I'm in a few AP games and I really don't like it.

Game setup - I don't really mind.....but don't give us small archipelago....that sucks. Standard is good. Fast start - don't really care. Tech pace - not sure why you'd want to slow it down from normal pace. PBEM's take a while and you do want to feel you're getting somewhere!

Silent, or silent outside of the thread, is basically what I was thinking.

The advantages of a custom or semicustom map is that we can have teammates placed on the map next to each other, and/or can have a smaller map than we normally could and still be assured of good starts. I hate restarts, so I'd rather not allow them at all... unless you have a REALLY good reason, primarily being on a small island. It's a pangea, that means we have plenty of room.

AP - I like it a lot, but I don't mind not playing with it.

You'd want to slow tech pace because, with the players being on a team, you'd already have an effectively doubled tech pace to start with ...

ok. I'm going to go ahead and set it up now, because I have some time on my hands. If you don't like the team order I choose, we can change it and restart- but I want to get it going.

Turn order will be:


Snoopy369 - AM or PM (6am)
Zord - Middle of my day (2pm-4pm)
Mickeyj - Middle of my day (12pm-6pm)
ChrisiusMaximus - Middle of my day (12pm -6pm)
Sabrewolf - middle to late in my day (5pm-7pm)
Paddy - Middle of the night my time, a lot
Aqualung - late evening/ night my time (10pm-2am)
MFCamillus - Very early day my time (3am-5am)

This is a guesstimate. I tried to keep partners next to each other... Chrisius and Paddy, sorry, but i couldn't keep you two together given your massive time difference (and *someone* had to be split, or have guaranteed 2 day turns). Hopefully this works -- but if it doesn't work let's say at lesat 3 times in the first 5 turns, let's try to get a better order.

I'm making the game right now, and then figuring out Zord's email.

Ooh ... oops. Didn't ask ppl what civs you want.

You have 48 hours to give me civs, or I'm choosing Random...

Options i'm going with:
Standard size map
70% water Pangea
Random/random/random
Fast start: 3 settlers, 3 warriors (That's a good fast start. )
Raging, Monarch (or Emperor? Corruption = low on small map like this)

I'll nominate my civ tomorrow. Give you all chance to go first.

Hint: Discuss this with your partner first. Two civs with identical advantages = sucky.

Oh, and anyone with an Agricultural civ? Please don't ask for a restart. (Well, I'd rather *nobody* ask for a restart... but specifically you all ^^) Consider yourself forwarned

just a suggestion...

I am a few hours a head of Aqualung in our time zones
This could just make the flow easier

Hopefully Chrisius and I will sort out our civs tonight

Settings as discussed, I chickened out and went monarch tho since not all of you agreen on emperor, and the happiness of emperor is ... scary.

3 of everything. That sort of sucks, be forewarned, because you'll start out the game losing cash hand over fist. You can survive -- easily -- without losing any of your units, but ... not easy for the first few turns.

If you need a restart, please say so by the END of 3950 BC. If I screwed up and didn't give you 3 Settlers, workers, and warriors -- say so before the end of 3950bc. (The END of 3950 bc = the end of your turn ... ie, after your turn 3950bc is sent on, no restart)
