Team PBEM Increase Your PM Length

Turn Order:

snoopy369 (username @ yahoo)
zord (zordprime a terra dot es)
mickeyj (mickeyj AT dsl.pipex.com)
chrisius (chrisbennett8 a aol)
sabre (sabrewolf TA blackhole TOD ch)
paddy (paddythescot a vtown com au)
aqua (akwalung71 yahoo)
mfcamillus (ffarth verizon net)

Alliances:
Snoopy369 <> MFCamillus
Zord <> Mickeyj
Chrisius <> Paddy
Aqua <> Sabrewolf

Although i have a million games going ... I'd like to start another one, for fun (not money, sorry alexman).

This is a TEAM PBEM. Not a Demo game, but a TEAM game in which eight players are on four teams, implying locked alliance (and co-victory, assuming both players survive). I think others have played this way before, but I haven't... and would like to.

I will take *only team entries*, which means if you don't have a teammate, post here but I'm not saving you a spot if 4 full teams show up. I don't intend this to be a terribly serious game -- mostly because I don't have the brainpower to be assured I'll win.

Rules:

Team members may communicate anything and everything to each other, maps, screenshots, science, whatever. It'll be on a random map, so no guaranteed nearby start, but you'll find each other soon enough i don't doubt.

Non-team members may not communicate except what's available in game -- you may communicate anything that would be technically communicable in game, so once map trading is available you can give specific directions; once mil. alliance is available you may make a military alliance; once communication is open, you may discuss scientific advances. Communication with one team member is communication with both.

Beside that, I don't see any 'rules' we need (though post if you do). Play for fun, play fairly.

Map will be Standard, Pangea, 80% water, to ensure we're nice and tight. Everything else up the middle.

I'd be open to a slightly modified map, either to ensure close team starts, or to give a fast start (extra settler), and/or anything else people want.

Oh, and anyone who wants to team with me, feel free to say so. I'm going to ask a few people, but I don't have anyone lined up yet.

sounds cool

to aqua - my fiercest foe in many games : i'd love to be for once on the same side

just one thing about the map settings: 80% pangea can turn out quite crappy... ask swissy what happened in the "double the fun" game (i'll tell you: one of his civs was stuck on a medium sized island outside of suicide-curragh reach of the main continent.
maybe 70% is better suitable for 8 players?

Well if it's not for money, count me out.

Seriously though, an 8-player game would probably be too slow for my taste, but thanks for the invitation!

If I may offer a suggestion, you should probably slow down the tech rate, otherwise with research cooperation it will be too fast.

i think we should try and get in a turn every single day with everybody having their fixed time slots. if we have too liberal playtimes, we may risk this game to get completely stuck.

in the 6player-2-a-day game (actually only 5 players), we're managing the 2-a-day pace easily. so with 8 players once-a-day should be possible!

what do you guys think?

PS: i'll book the 23-24 BST (=GMT including daylight saving) session

I find fixed time slots a complete waste...

the idea is all good and well to begin with, but have you ever seen them stuck to by many people

With a good crew of players the game should roll on regardless of any major issues

Once set up in a good round the world line up, well the party should take its course

I'm inclined to agree with Paddy, a 24 hour like the iron civer keeps things rolling. What about if a player misses a 24hr slot his partner plays the turn?

I generally play turns before i go to work anytime between 6 and 9am depending on what needs to be done and when i get home any between 6 and 12 depending whether there's beer on offer .

yeah but like I work full time, and am on call afterhours

I still get to play a bit of civ each day, not always at the same hours

so setting any time frame penalty for people with real life responsibilities really sux

Paddy emailed me this link for some reason, but it seems as if the numbers are all booked up.

Anyway, if there's someone who needs a temp or drops out, I'm interested. I'd be able to play more often than not in the 0800-1400 GMT timeslot.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I actually have a partner already, I just hadn't confirmed it until just today so i didn't post ^^ MFCamillus and I will be playing in our slot.

I see 3 teams, plus at least 4 other players. (5 teams total.) Obviously we can't do 5 teams in one game -- but how about 6 in 2 (or 8 in 2 games)? 3 teams would be interesting, but either diplomacy would have to be limited or there would be a 2 vs 1 team up inevitably. BUT, it would move a lot faster, and we could agree to not team up 2 vs 1...

What do you all think? I'll be here all day tomorrow, on and off, and parts of Saturday as well, so we can work this out over the week-end...

Timer: I'm generally against a hard timer, BUT a team gives you a bit more of an option -- it's not horrible say if Paddy plays Chrisius' turn or vice versa, since they're allowed to share info completely anyways. How about if you expect longer than 24 hours you ask your partner to play it, and if it's a long wait we may ask your partner to do so?

And what do people think about a fast start or a custom map?

And, Alex, if we played 6 player 3 team would you join? ^^ Then we only need one other ...

and roth/con or beta/con would indeed be sweet. All three of you are gladly invited if we set up a second game ...
