Since Joe missed the first round of action, the Canadians were AI, and the Brazilians were going to be AI anyway.

Canada and Brazil are still open, and Brazil seems to be the stronger of the two countries, plus they have the entire continent of SA to themselves, unless Dimble made some bold moves here.

Easthaven won't be around so we need someone to sub in for Egypt, therefore we have:

-Egypt
-Canada
-Brazil

Open for play, Brazil and Canada are open to keep while Egypt we just need a sub.

We play Wednesday at 7 edt, and we play until 11:30 or so, probably 11:00. PM of course.

According to a time zone site I just looked at, Sweden is +4 hours of East Coast time here in the US....so if you want to play in this game, it would be 11PM-3AM your time.......I doubt you'll be able to swing this, but if you can, you are certainly welcome......if you think you can maybe play a week or two, please consider being a sub.

This week we have "autumn-brake" from school == I can sleep the whole day after..

So this week I can join, maybe as that "temporarily sub" (egypt?). But after this week it will be too late in the evening for me..

If you do end up playing, you should talk to Easthaven (who plays the egyptians) and get a feeling for his strategy and how he wants to go forward.....his icq is 77102782......I can't speak for him, so please talk with him if you can...thanks.

No offense ml, but I just read the GIGA thread, and your aztecs sounded like they met a very early end. If you're not real experienced, you shouldn't sub for someone that I know won't be happy if they return to play their civ ands its gone......

Well, donīt let that Aztec thing scare you. If I may say so, I am very experienced in playing Civ II (but not in playing civ II over the internet)... Sometimes you just have bad luck.. What I was not "aware" of in that game was the fact that we had "Raging hordes" of barbarians, which can be catastrophic when you not build any defence..

My strategy was to expand as fast as possible in the beginnning, ie. only build and buying settlers for the first ~1000-2000 years. If I "invest" in defence for my cities early in the game, I will first loose the shields that it cost to build the defence unit (4 warriors == 1 settler), and then I will loose one shield extra every turn in maintance for the first settler while it "is a live".. Not much is gained by not buildig defence, but in a game where everybody is great Civilization II players (wich I assume they are), everything that can help you getting a great start, and beeing a successful empire, is desirable. In this case it was nevertheless a bad idea.. ..because of the barbarians.. (ok, that maybe was little "inexperienced", but i just put the stakes high, aiming at the stars, "everything or nothing", and this time it became "nothing"

Anyway, I will contact easthaven ASAP about temporarily sub this Wednesday, but if he "doesn't want me" to play his civ, maybe I can join in as a temporaily sub for one of the AI players?

I am still in school right now, and I won't be home until around five maybe, so I can't send it until then. And no, I have not "made contact" with the elusive Easthaven since then, not to mention that he and I have a history together...

a history of him kicking my ass in this game, so I really don't talk to him much.

I don't have a copy of the saved game ( I don't want to be tempted to take a peak at the rest of the map ), but someone else might I don't know.....I'm going home in a few minutes......so ill be back online in about an hour.....if capo doesn't send you the scenario soon, icq me and I'll get it to you......

If you can make every wednesday, please consider taking over for the brazilians. They have a strong country and you are obviously a reliable player. Dimb needs someone to keep him company in the americas anyway. With two Ai's on top and bottom of him, his opportunity for conquest and power is enormous. Having a human prescence would balance the world rather nicely. Of course if east doesnt show this week, you should take over egypt on a permanent basis, since you'll have played the majority of the time......we shall see......

Ok.. I think I can make it every wednesday, but it involves not sleeping more than 1-2 hours on wednesday nights. That can be a little hard in school on thursdays, but since I only have 2 hours mathematics, and 1.5 hour physics(lab) on that day (which both happends to be among my strong subjects), I think I can make it..

But it feels as if it would only be "worth it" if I get to play the egypts, because I have played as them before and I have planned a nice long-time-strategy there (would like to see if it works ).

Anyway; although it feels tempting to play as the brazils, I have to think some more about this.. Report here ASAP regarding easthaven, and I will then consider whether I am willing to play as the brazilians or not..

Yep I know.. But, even if I dont want to, I will probably fall asleep immediately after I get home anyway..

..But what the heck.. It's only once/week (for a limited(?) number of weeks) ..and, after all, its civ we are talking about...
