I was watching NBC news, and they had some Pakistani guy speaking English, yet they still ran the closed captioning at the bottom of the screen. What's up with that? Yes I know, they tend to do that if the accents are thick and hard to understand. But his wasn't too bad. It just seems funny to run english translation when the guy is speaking english.

what are they going to do? kill me?

how can they not see anyone naked? Do they not have showers there? What about married couples? Surely the guys get to see their wives naked then? What's the point of getting married if you can't see your wife naked?

Strange, most of the foreigners I've met in China say the same thing about Chinese. They usually cite the monosyllablism and that the tones usually make statements less melodic. I suppose its the difference between the languages and what you've been brought up with.

in any case my point is even ugly languages sound good when an attractive woman is speaking it

I was flying Dutch airlines (KLA I believe) for emergency leave. And the stewardess was speaking in Dutch. And she was hot. And I wanted to bang her. And even though the language sounded harsh, it sounded great coming from her mouth. Although keep in mind I just got off a ship with no women on it after being at sea several months. And she was the first real woman I saw (the women in Kuwait city airport don't do much for me- you can't see them )

So I'd imagine I'd feel the same way about a muslim woman- if only they were allowed to diplay their buauty.

But I voted Vietnamese. Even the good looking women speaking that language don't do much for me.

You are out of your mind. Having varying tones makes Chinese one of the most music-like languages in the world. Ever read a Chinese poem - in Chinese, that is?

While Chinese poetry is very much an exception, casual conversation doesn't have the same concern for tone placement (word choice). Having tones in a language doesn't necessarily make it musical. In fact, many Chinese language singers pay little attention to tones to make the words fit their songs better.
