I'm suprised the US kept it so close.

I expected a 10 point loss.

I used to think you were kind of slow, but I see that you are just stubborn. But we are making you an American yet. Welcome to the team!

The US Mens Basketball team sucks. How did David Stern get to choose who got invitations? They chose the most marketable names who said they were willing to go. They didn't choose a team. The NBA is collapsing under the weight of their own indictments. Attendance is still down from that in the Jordan glory years. I used to like watching the NBA, but 'm liking it less and less each year. Pretty soon, I'll be trying to find Italian league games on channel 277.

Seriously tho, Team USA has immensely improved. And I still think they're one of the favorites, together with us and Spain. Saras might not always shoot as well as he did last Saturday.

I'm not so sure about 'one of the favorites' but they certainly have improved and seem to be getting the hang of the international-style play. You see the same kind of awkwardness with NHL players in the olympics. They sometimes get caught defensively by the larger size of the rinks and can look pretty foolish.

True-- but then they compensate and go on to win the World championships

Oh and I believe that today there is a matchup of two teams where they know with absolute certainty that the WINNER gets to play the Americans and the LOSER gets Peurto Rico.

I don't know about anyone else but I think I would rather avoid the Americans, despite their loss to Peuro Rico.

Yea... Argentina-Italy
and we lost by 1 point... hehe

FYI, these are the quarterfinals:

Lithuania - China
Greece - Argentina
Puerto Rico - Italy
USA - Spain

If the US gets by Spain it will be a USA-Lithuania rematch in the finals. It will be another close game but I think this time the Americans will come out on top.

If the US plays Puerto Rico next round they are going to destroy Puerto Rico, if it's Italy they will win by a comfortable 10.

Bottom line is that the game versus Spain is probably the biggest of the tournament.

Spain will drain Team USA, even if they don't beat them. Although Jefferson said that "fatigue is for cowards", they're still Homo Sapiens.

Lithuania OTOH, will walk all over China and whoever's next. Rested and confident.

US beats previously undefeated Spain. Then,
Lietuva beats China. Yao Ming was great, but the rest of the Chinese team looked terrible.

I couldn't quite make out why he was whining. Did the US call time out and take out its starters or something?

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Coach Brown called a timeout and then decided he didn't want it when he saw that the US was up by 8. The refs gave him the timeout anyway.

The Spanish coach was being unreasonable.

He was also whining about the refs calling the game like an NBA game, saying that the US players were travelling too much.

He couldn't respond when it was pointed out that the two refs were from Australia and Mexico and had never called an NBA game before.

Yeh, I heard about the complaints about the calls. Those are the kinds of complaints you make to the refs, not the press.

The US in this olympics (besides basketball) has been given a lot of unwarranted grief. Like the Russian gymnast who talked down the American girl's all around gold. If you can't quite swing with champions...

Then there is the big fiasco about the mens gymnastics also

Nope... when it was for the bronze, the lazy and borish Americans who have no clue how to play actually won.
I was happy that the American Women won the Gold in Basketball... but even happier that the American Men didn't.
