I could go for random non agricultural random "sucky" civs that have tendencies to be "pirates".

(Balderdash joke)

Seriously random non ag Classic Civs sounds cool.

Make sure they all have an ancient UU. No ag.

Make a pool of seven.

You get what you get by the luck of the draw.

Make the map fairly standard so it wont really benefit a seafaring, expansionist civ, etc.

Thats sounds pretty fair Beta.

Beta has handled it well in the past with doing a random draw and that determines the order of people picking. It's a little more difficult for the computer to make random civ choices if we're only picking from seven different civs.

So Theseus - aren't pbems fun? This is all there is to it. We never really play any civ3. We just talk about it a lot, and respond to conmcb's trash talking.

Ok - I get the sense that the classics, non-agricultrural theme is fine - with the seven civs I have indicted assigned randomly to the seven players. And having SR check the map.

Other settings:

monarch
average age and temp
70% water
no culturally linked starts
all normal victory conditions
raging barbs? Always fun, and a good way to get elites.

Yes Ghengis I saw that too...but the last time I played Axis & Allies was on the board game back in 1980! So I didn't really feel that comfortable to sign-up as a beta tester for the PC version.

No - but I have three options.

1. I use my 10 sided die , with 8-10 being roll-overs.
2. You use a six sided die twice - with the 1-3 on the first roll going to the first 6 players (who then roll a second time to see who is chosen), and 4-6 going to the 7th player - who only gets chosen if a one is rolled on the second die. Any other second roll is a roll-over - thus making everybody's chances equal.
(btw - this is much different than rolling two dice at the same time - ei craps - where seven comes up one-sixth of the the time, and 2 and 12 only once in 36 times each.)
3. The trusty deck of cards with ace through 7.

Either of the 3 options you choose looks like it's fair ... so good by me.

Though, to keep it simple for you, I would say use the 10-sided die with 8-10 being rerolls.

My humble apologies to my good pals Rhoth and con (sounds like Star Trek movie I once saw), but that was the result of the die rolling.

Greece, Rome, Carthage, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Hittites.

Oh - and I guess one is seafaring.

I have also contacted SR to ask him to set up the game.

I suggest that once MWIA and then Beta have picked, we all PM our choices to Beta, with the appropriate number of alternate picks. So Theseus would just send Beta his choice, I'd send Beta my choice plus a #2 alternative, Wittlich would do his top 3, etc...

The idea as explained is hideously confusing.... but as I pick first and whatever I choose is mine, logically I should be able to just post here. OK then. I hope you're right, logic, else I'll beat you to death with my maximum improbability stick.
