Product Installer Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I cannot install CTP2 from CD, because a problem is encountered during installation:
The process is cancelled with a message like "... problem with product installer..."

Computer configuration:
- WinXP Pro
- 900 MHz, 256 MB RAM
- GeForce4, DirectX 9b
- CD-ROM and the Drive are ok! I checked this on other computers.

Hint: I had to exchanged the Harddisk, but the program was running on the same machine before!
That's the reason for the new installation.

What is happened?

HELP!!!

At a guess it could be something to do with XP.

CTP2 doesnt like the operating system? were you using it with CTP2 before you changed your harddisk?

I'm in the stoneage in computer terms using Win98 and an old pentium 166 - it works ok for me, as do most games made in the 90's.

Tired of ads?

Try logging in as Administrator. Yes, stand-alone XP Pro puts all users in the Local Admin group by default. I've still had installs mess up as me until I relog as Administrator. Another fine product from the makers of edlin.....

Thanx for the hint, but I'm ALWAYS logged in as administrator!

My last trying: I created a new account for administrator, but after this it doesn't work too.

well i cant think of anything else that might help - if all you've done is add a new harddisk i cant think why it would cause a problem

Have you tried installing other software(oldish games) on this new hard drive and do they work - i suppose it could be a damaged cd, but it sounds like its some other prob...........sorry

I’ve run into that problem when I tried to install from an account without Administrator rights and privileges. But if you’re certain that your account has those privileges (and other software installs for you), then perhaps your CtP2 CD is bad. That’s one of the reasons why I use disk images so much – cuts down on the physical wear and tear of my CDs. I hope you made a copy of your CD … if not you can pick up another one pretty cheap online. I think GoGamer sells it for under $10 now! A used one at EBay is probably even cheaper.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Hello World !!!

I found the solution to product installer's problem:

The cause were the DirectX-settings!

I had to start the tool "dxdiag.exe" to deactivate the DirectX functions "DirectDraw acceleration" and "Direct3D acceleration" (sheet "display").

After the succesfully installation process I reactivate the using of these functions to check the behaviour of ctp2: A miracle, it works !?!?!?

Thanx to all, who wanted to help me.

Now I'm lucky again ...

Yours Svensson
