CDG settling west! Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Below is a shot from turn 71.

What should we do about this settler, if anything?

Also, should we consider attacking it. Please discuss.

As a note: The only units we have available to do anything about the settler are our two sentry units on the eastern front (Ares and Roadkill) as well as a new archer in Hypnos and a Hoplite (Hopity) in Hypnos. We could move the Hoplite from Olympus as well, but that would leave the city with no MP and no barb protection.

Man oh man, we had this discussion a long time ago, except it was to try and grab the capitol, remember?

I say we talk to PAL about it and nab the settler.

Downside is CDG would shift to constructing defensive units. BUT they maybe doing that already after playing lets block the settler with PAL.

My guess is he is gonna settle at 2 of the warrior forted on the mountain, or at 2,2,3 of Olympus.

So we got till next turn to decide because if it continues on next turn it will be in place. And settle the next.

No, if we want to take him for workers, we have to move our units NOW. So now we need to make up our mind.

I am against a pre-scheduled attack (we don't have the forces for it, but in 20 turns we will have more than enough).

I say we just tell them (if they don't see our sentries already) that if they cross the line between them, we will take the settler and declare hostilities. If they settler on the other side of that line (which is what I would be doing anyways) they are safe.

Be very firm and inform them of the consequnces of their actions.

I bet they won't move that settler any further towards our Warrior 7-7 of him without an escort. If they do move him, it would be 1 and then they would settle the next turn.

I suggest we move our Warrior at 7-7 of him 3 and the other 9. I say we go ahead and take the settler if they present him. If they just build a city; I say we raze it as well. Might as well make them pay the cost of a settler (2 pop and 30 shields) now instead of letting that settler pay dividends by building units we'd only later on have to kill.

So what if they start building military now? I'll bet they have already switched to that seeing PAL's agressiveness towards them. I don't think we'd lose a thing besides "surprise' if we atack them now; and I'm not entirely sure it would be a surprise at all later on that we would attack them. PAL and APO could now start some Guerilla warfare against CDG. Slowly bringling their strength down until we are ready to go for the take down.

Let's aslo pass this shot to PAl and get their input; it can't hurt. Though we all know what they'll say!

Call me a fool, but I'd rather we take a gentler approach to this issue. As I've noted before, my fear is that any sign of hostility before our attack will set off panic alarms in CDG, causing an unwanted build-up.

Be gentle about this issue. You know, just a simple message asking, out of pure curiosity, what their intentions are with the settler. After their reponse, another, gently informing them that we really wouldn't like it all that much if it was too close, but without any hint of a threat.

I know it makes us look weak, but what's that matter? We'll have that city in twenty turns anyway. If we appear weaker, gentler, and less hostile, CDG will redirect all its resources in it's cold war with PAL, and trust us enough to leave open an entire front ripe for our taking.

I think we should capture the settler - this will give us two more workers who can build a road towards CDG.
We only guess if CDG will build troops and walls or not. With just 4 cities and basic military units we should not be afraid of them.
Leaving them to build a city near us we will be forced to remove our sentry from the mountain and they will be able to see our road.

Dont attack.

We are not ready.
And they will just switch to a military build....making our job harder.

If anything, tell them we see their settler, and give them directions to avoid barbarians.

They will build the city.
Probably just defend it lightly...because we did not jump it.
Then build a nice road to it which will help our forces when we attack.

Yeah, why do we need to attack it now? If it settles, it will be in a prime spot to take early on. And we will have a new city, quite possibly even in a place we want to keep one. At the least it will be a slave unit or two.

We tip them off just too much by rushing the thing now. We aren't ready to protect against a CDG military rush now, so we should just stick to the plan, and not compromise it.

I say we attack it if it moves within range of our sentries. If they settler 1 of their current location, I wouldn't mind all that much.

2 free workers would be nice, but suprise will be better.

If I thought that CDG would go "builder", for the most part till we attack in ~21 turns, then I would say to wait. But, with PAL's and CDG's recent history and with "Pumkinland" popping up; I'm sure that CDG is now going into "prepare for war" mode. With that being the case, taking away a city that will produce at least 1 and maybe 2 or 3 units (with poprushing), it is the best course of action in my mind to take this attack of opportunity. Preventative medicine is the best medicine; in this case CDG is a bacteria that needs to be stopped ASAP in order for our war against them to cost us the least.

In short CDG will be building for war from now to the time we planned to attack them so why wait for them to build more when we can do very good damage now!

Got spare money?

I say we wait on this one. We can take the city later. Most if not all of the units it produces will be headed north to fend off PAL. This weakens both of them which makes us all the stronger.

If we come across as peaceful and maybe offer assistance to help them with PAL they won't see us coming when the blow finally does fall.

Seeing us as peaceful will not cause them to build other things besides military units.

PAL or APO will have to kill or be killed by those units.

Why are you so sure PAL will have to take on the brunt of CDG forces? CDG will likely turtle. I think it will be pretty even as far as APO and PAL losses in the war.

Also, don't count on the city being there for us to take. CDG will likely abandon it before they would let us take it. A strat seen all to often....Abandon, withdraw, consolidate.

I'm thinking they plan on settling one tile due west of where it is.
We could have blocked it during our turn peacefully by just moving the fortified warrior of the mountain one tile due south.

(4-4-7 Minnesota.)

How kind of them to build a city for us there.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

If they move there, then they deserve to have the settler sacked. He has no defenders, and will not be able to found the city (he used up his turn moving there).
