No he's one of those wishy washy socialist republicans that the senate seems to have alot of. He claims he's a republican but in reality he's really a liberal with an identity crisis. I've met the kind before they swear up and down they're republicans because they agree with a couple of republican issues, but when you get right down to it they're about as liberal as they come.

As noted before: you're either his type of Republican or you aren't "really" one at all.

NEWSFLASH: The major parties are both designed to be very broad so as to appeal to a lot of voters. The more ideologically "pure" you make the party, the more voters you will lose. So g'head. Keep pushing the moderates out. See what happens.

1. They went after Specter hard as we all know- if anything he is an example of the difference.

2. McCain has too much non-party local support to be vulnerable, as do all other surviving moderate Republicans- thought of Course McCain is actually quite conservative on most issues, so he is vulnerabl;e only in a few fronts. The second the extreme right thinks that has changed, BAM, they go right at them, like they did with Specter. You'd be surprised how many Democrats down here are just as conservative as Zell. And, of course, the South has the Republican Governor of Alabama who wants to increase welfare, a lot. Party affiliations get wierd here.

Why dont people use the more descriptive terms POPULIST and LIBERTARIAN more, these go a long way to describing the views of many of these moderate politicials. Are people simply to unfamiliar with these terms and their meanings so we default to calling someone like Rudolph Guliani a "Socialy Moderate Republican" or a "Barry Goldwater Republican" or a "North East Republican" or a "Pro-Choice Republican" or some other term.
