	Newbies pbem worldwide (play the world/monarch) Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Hi all,

I would like to start a civ3 - play the world game via email for players worldwide. I did not play any civ-pbems so far, but played several games versus the computer (and did a lot of civ2 games). Right now, I play at "monarch" level and win about 30-40 % of these games (but do not want to play at lower levels either).
If you also fall into this category, please respond.

Only thing i'd suggest groron is you'll get more players if you play C3C (Conquests). If you don't have it, get it - it's a pretty good addition.

BUT, there are a few people who still seem to like to play PTW - Awsric, Sir Ralph, Jshelr to name a few, and I've been known to play a few myself.

PBEM, you can play at higher levels -- the only difference is really the corruption and the happiness. Most people play Regent, Monarch, Emperor, in that range -- regent has less corruption, emperor 1 less happy person -- depending on how fast and aggressive of a game you want.

Thanks for responding. At least someone did answer.
I might get Conquests soon, but a few more games versus the computer have shown that I do not win 30-40 % of the games. It is more 10-20 %.
So I will play some more and stay with Alpha Centauri meanwhile - if no more newbies attend here.

I'm not a newbie as I have experience of being trashed out of games pretty quick. So I'm looking to be in a few more games for the aforementioned reason.

That sounds like a good qualification for my game.
So we are two or three players if we also invite snoopy. I recommend we wait for one or two more days and start then.

Hmm..I have conquests version and PTW version from same disc

It says I am updated on the latest when I go to Gamesspy?

I looked and have v1.22 on conquests...

I dont see a version number on PTW. though?

(newbie is coming to forefront I reckon

Same here. I believe that's the latest version too, seeing as Civ3.com doesn't have anything more recent.

usually the lower left corner on the main screen (load game,new game) will show it.


What about game set up?

You can load up PTW using your Conquests disc. Which is what I would be doing.

Did you have to update the pTW or did the conquests come with latest PTW version?

Ok, PTW please. Newest patch is 1.27f. So Platypus Rex
is fine.
Newest Conquests Patch is 1.22, which I guess equals PTW 1.27 (not sure about this).

My out of the box version was v1.27f. So all is good I would guess.

My biggest problem is remembering to load up through different desktop shortcuts.

I guess my PTW is ok because out of box is 1.27

Climate: Normal
Temperature: Temperate
Age: 4 billion
Difficulty: Monarch

You are correct about the latest versions of PTW (1.27) and Conquests/C3C (1.22). They are not really equivalent in any way - they just represent the last updates to the respective games.

You can tell the version you are using in the lower left hand corner of the main option screen in both PTW and C3C.

And Grandpa - good to have another Bruce around.

I named it "Groron" (for Grorons game) followed by the recipient and the turn.
So my save name was "Groron-Dauphin, 4000 BC".
If you stick to this, you do not mess it up with previous save files.
