We pushed our restrictions to the limits of a demo (committee) game and we lost. Let's pull up our socks and get back at a new one. We've learned it is possible to lose by restricting ourselves too much. Now let's find a fair game to play!

Surviving so far. I sold all my temples, to build tanks.
Built Musketeers in all the colony cities, plus the Bank and the Stock Market in Apolytonia.
Sacajawacea invaded, took two cities, but I rallied three tanks, retook my captured city, and then stole Communism.
Revolted to Communism, kept capital celebrating, so that we earn more money every turn, without problems of Republic.
Started to demand technologies from the Egyptians, got Nuclear Fission, and tactics, so that allows us to build decent defenses.
Traded for technologies with the Persians. No one has espionage. Democracy available, but I need the cash, plus other technologies to defend myself. Take Combined Arms, and Amphibious Warfare, to build Coastal fortresses.
Signed treaty with Sacajacea, so that I have the time. Zulus patrolliing, but with tanks behind a coastal fortress, decline to attack Apolytonia.
Now I'm modernising all the defenses with Alpine troops and coastal fortresses along the shore. Still far behind the AI, but we can build a strike force of Tanks and Helicopters to take AI cities. We have 5 tanks avaialable, plus a helicopter.
We are not in a hopeless position, Cavebear. We can win this thing!

Ben
I only meant that the dim and unlikely prospect of losing should not be used as an excuse not to continue. I never say it can't be done.
And checking the save is just what I was referring too, elsewhere, about the value of posting the save for all to see.
Personally, I think defense is of little value at this stage of the game. I would emphasize 'Tora, Tora, Tora, and let the chips fall where they may. But, that's only my preference. There are many ways, and enough time, to skin this cat.

And there are other ways to arrive at 1889 (with Ben's general strategic suggestions). I have 9 Armor and 10 in production. Captured Wood Lake and will take Bear Paw easily. I think the Tanks will run through many Sioux cities and capture additional techs We got Communism from Wood Lake. We can get things like Coastal Fortress or Engineering from them too (assuming everyone else has those things by now).
So yes let's attack the game again... And we have a choice of ways. That has to be good!
