Leaving aside the reality of God for now.

I believe in God, therefore, would it not be honest for me to confess my sins to him?

No, because that would be idolatry. The plastic toy is the work of men's hands, and cannot save as the living God can.

If you are not willing to leave aside the reality of God, then we can debate that.

But here I thought you wanted all religious bigotry out of the thread.

Well god is a figment of the human imagination so it isn't any different.

If God is based only on the human imagination, why don't we make someone softer and more cuddlier?

Since when do you envision leaders as "soft and cuddly"? Would you like a "soft and cuddly" leader?

Well, I was saying that in jest, but human subconscious psychological needs aren't just cuddling and love. Plus, it does have that all "reality" thing to tackle. How much can you say that God is loveable, plushy, and pink, when your mom died, and your dad is high and pimps you out for smack (using a hyperbole here).

It's false to analyze religion on a personal level without always keeping in mind the societal context.

Who said I'm looking at just myself?

It's something that many have complained, that God seems too distant, and that they do want someone, as I put it, softer and more cuddlier.

If the leader is one you are to be held accountable to, I think we all would desire someone more tolerant and lenient.

And that is just what I am trying to say. God is not all loveable or cuddly. People want a God that is more loveable and cuddly, for the reasons that you have stated here.

They see injustice, and cruelty, and all kinds of suffering in the world, and they wonder how God can be merciful if he permits such suffering to occur.

What we forget is that our time here on earth is so short. The bad will not last forever.

I would assume you see most "pagan" gods as figments of men's imagination- how many of them were "cute and cuddly"?

Do I? No. I think they have some part of God in them, some awakening and understanding of his nature, and his reality.

This is why people like Plato, find their ideas rather compatible, (though not entirely,) with Christianity.

I think usually a mirror, reflections in water, photographs, paintings, drawings, et cetera.

It's this weird ability called 'sight' which the majority of humanity (and quite a lot of animals) possess.

Obi Gyn

Err, a tad difficile that one:

Plato : 428-348 B.C.

Christianity: quite a bit after Plato was dead.

Horse you shouldn't get credit for this troll action.

I mean anyone could have done it, it takes no skill. You could have let one of the junior trolls handle it.

I have to admit it's pretty fun though.
