I just got back from the best first date of my life. As luck would have it, it was with the best-looking woman I've ever dated (by a country mile). A chemical engineering Ph.D. candidate, originally from Korea, trained at UBC. Funny, easy to talk to (not an unremarkable thing for me, I tend to be tongue-tied around women), absolutely gorgeous, and a body that could best be described as "eminently lickable." She was talking about what we should do on future dates before our salad even arrived, so I think she liked me.
Only three problems:
1. She's a bit older than me--she's 31. I don't really care, and she doesn't look a day over 26 anyway, but I suppose it could end up being a problem.
2. She thinks I look like John Carter from ER, so she's clearly delusional.
3. If I have learned anything is my life, I am destined to royally **** this up somehow.
Regardless, I'm gonna try to set something up on a weeknight this week, as I'll be working weekend call for the next couple weeks. She mentioned enjoying playing with dogs at a pet shop or shelter, then a dollar movie, then a local ice cream place; this, to me, is a nigh-perfect date. I really like this woman; the whole experience even took the edge off of the Michigan-Notre Dame game, believe it or not.
Perhaps this whole "doctor" thing is going to pay off after all. |
Her age shouldn't matter within reason. Would you be concerned if she were 5 years younger than you?
You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. You had a long term relationship where she went somewhat mental, correct? Where is that on you?
Just relax and enjoy a bit of the road that life is gonna take you on. Maybe it works and is forever, and maybe not. Who knows? The point is the trip, and that she is hot.

People, people, people. Come on.
She is established here. She'll almost certainly become a professor at Ohio State once she finishes her Ph.D. next year. She is not looking to get married.
I am simply just that charming.
Set-up date #2 just now, while still in a post-call daze. Took her original suggestion of playing with dogs, dollar movie, ice cream, and managed to negotiate it into playing with dogs, me making dinner, watching a DVD, and ice cream/dessert at my place.
Oh hell yeah. Friday night, baby. Only drawback is I'm oncall Saturday, so I probably should get a decent night's sleep Friday. But, then again, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
And I met her on match.com. Holy crap, there are actually some REALLY good-looking women on there. Including, much to my surprise, a co-intern of mine who I thought was already taken/married. She was the first person I noticed when I went to orientation, just a staggeringly-beautiful young woman of Indian heritage. Just noticed her on there Friday, haven't had the chance to talk to her about it yet... I figure I'll have to acknowledge it sooner rather than later, or we'll both be too weirded out to talk to each other in any capacity; and we'll be working the NICU together in the Spring, so awkwardness would be bad.

Hey wait! Wasn't she on ER also? Yeah, one of the black residents fell in love with her, then lied to cover her behind when she accidently killed some guy by not getting a full list of his meds. (G**D*** MAO Inhibitors, just when you thought they were safely extinct they make a come back from the grave!) Carter catches him covering up for her and is forced to report him, but he manages to duck the rap by getting himself called up to Iraq. The Indian chick becomes so disillusioned with herself that she takes a residency in Dermatology, then quits medicine all together.
Think about it dude. There's a basic plan laid out for you.
