the dutch were warned not to engage the byzantines and they did not listen to those voices.

after we had set up a strong perimeter along the viking border sea before they attacked the english, we gradually moved the sea units over to the dutch border. some ships were hidden as scouting ships, some where hidden in cities nearby and only a few were obvious. this decoy worked and the dutch armada sailed right into the middle of the trap. except one fierce galleon, all dutch ships sank with little harm to the byzantine fleet.

we were aware that it would not be possible to fight too many units on more than one front so our best chance was to surprise-strike the scandinavians (which worked better than expected) and pick up the dutch boats before they place their dangerous swiss mercenaries on our home soil. the dutch chose the "straight" route to our lands so their position was more or less anticipatable (although we would have chosen a slight detour).

so the dutch have decided to join the worldwide battle - late, but better than never. however, with a bit of luck, the dutch will have been foolish enough to place their whole army in the 5 ships that are rotting underneath the sea.
of course our strategists may be wrong and those were just decoy... but rest assured: we're also prepared for that
