	scrapping captured ships for technology Increase Your PM Length

(no, I don't own a manual, I bought a $5 OEM copy)

I've searched around for some kind of FAQ that would answer my quetsion, but to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what the game's algorithm is for deciding when you gain the technology from scrapping a captured ship? I really want this class 7 shield but i really don't wanna research it just yet (b-lining straight for disruptors at the moment)

even if you had the manual and theguide it would not tell you anything about that.

Do you know for sure they have the tech you want? It is probably easier to steal it, if they are not a lot better than you in spy techs and traits.

Yimboli: make sure u have EVERY other tech that race has besides the shields, then try scrapping one of the captured ships. If you get nothing, then you got your answer. If you do get the shields, there and then, then you also get your answer

This doesn't always work - at least not with captured Antaran ships. Many times I'll capture a couple, scrap the first and get the detonator and possibly the particle beam, then have the second give nothing at all.
Then the next time I manage to capture and scrap a ship I might get the damper.

I don't think you get a tech from scrapping 100% of the time, even if they have some that you do not know. I am not possitive, though.

You don't get tech everytime. But you can use that random number trick. Just save, scrap, and if you get nothing, then load and goto the next turn and scrap again.
