Grand Theft Autowind? Inflate your Upload Space

According to this preview the new Grand Theft Auto game is going to introduce the concept of a countryside. It is a gigantic area that lies between three full cities, and supposedly it is filled with extra things to do. I thought it wouldn't be all that great, but judging from these screenshots the area is going to be huge. Thinking about how interesting the exploration aspect of this game could be makes me think a bit about Morrowind.

These shots make them game seem more like Drakken than GTA! Also, might have a lot more control over the development of the thug this time.

""A chopper could get you up there in about two minutes," advises Hamish, "but you could even run or take a bicycle up there, another way to keep CJ in top physical condition, as a way to keep customising the character.""

So, what do you think? A full countryside that will probably have a tremendous number of secrets to discover. "Customising" the character, hopefully some sort of RPGish stat system. GTA-SA seems to have the potential to be a lot better than its predecessors.

Problem is, in GTA3 and Vice city, that the secrets are often too hard to find and don't give true satisfaction except for the sake of having found the secret. If they could make it more RPG, with some stories, some humorous surprises etc it would make it worthwhile. How about those secrets influencing the main plot, giving different dialogues etc.

Vice city was fun for a while, but I have to say it has more potential. The controls are frikin impossible, and it all feels a bit console. If it had fluid FPS movement in a 3rd person viewpoint instead it would be a lot more fun to shoot cops etc. After a while massacring cops got boring cos of the controls

The good thing about PC versions of games is that you can customize things, such as keyboard controls and the like. Having played both, I have to say the PC version gives much greater control.

This game looks to be interesting.

I think the countryside is cool, as long as there is stuff to shoot at out there(Like animals, or even better yet yetis!) There had better be stuff to do out there, b/c jsut running in gta games can get pretty lame, but I love the idea, it's more realistic, and has something new.

I wish they'd make it rpgISH, but I doubt that's going to happen as much as would be comfortable this time around. But I do expect more interaction, as many of the next gen systems are beginning ot show.

Remember you don't have to go into the countryside if you don't want, but I believe Rockstar said there will be plenty to do out there.

The hit on the golf course was fun in Vice City.

This seems to promise that you can take the war to the golfers!

(except rah and Spaced Cowboy, -Jrabbit, Ming, and any other 'poly golfers I have forgotten/don't know about)

This is a game that I'm definately getting.

Country side feature is way cool what are you talking about?

There will be 3 MAJOR cities and 9 suburban villages spread out in a giant state making this GTA the biggest game of the series. How could anyone say this game is gonna suck?

No, your character moves awkwardly. He's getting stuck a lot too. It's absolutely not very intuitive. I mean, standing still when firing a shotgun. It's not a realistic game so why implementing that? When you're standing still you get hit... It's rather the way your character moves than the actual controls that sucks

I hope to god, that there is GOOD stuff to do out in the woods. I just realized that R* could go all cutesy and make it so you have to go collect honey from beehives, and help that d-bag christopher robin find his dumba** stuffed animals.

Prime rule in Game Development: Once game mechanics start getting boring, throw in a whole bunch more variety in setting.

Exhibit A: Tony Hawk Pro Skater series

Wasn't that one of the best parts of GTAIII though? At least, I thought that doing Taxi driving was a great way to learn the layout of the city and earn some extra cash. More importantly it was a fun extra game that you could play for a while without getting too bored (there could have been more variety in drop off locations...). And who can forget Vigillante Mode? ELIMINATE THE CRIMINAL THREAT! The main missions of GTA are fine too, but I think the real draw of the game is the fun that can be had by just screwing around in the city and messing with the little minigames.

Well, that's my 2cents on the issue anyway.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

A hardened criminal delivering pizzas? The minigames are a fun part of the whole, but the pizza delivery one just seems too contrived. I can imagine a hardened criminal driving recklessly in an ambulance to save some patient (while running over many other people) just to extort money from them at the hospital or similar, but food delivery just seems too far out of character.

I've never played Tony Hawk but then again that's not my bag baby!

But seriously I have to politely disagree with you regarding boring gameplay for the GTA series. The beauty of this game, as has been stated already, is the open ended exploring that one can do in a large city setting.

I hope they're making the taxa driving missions more complex, instead of just having ~10 drop points per city-part...

Taxi missions are great. They are even more fun when you can include some stunt jumps at the same time.
